So, are the Marvel Universe movies still a go?

I remember reading about how the Marvel Films was going to have this franchise of solo heroes' movies (Iron Man, Hulk, Cap, etc.) which would culminate in an Avengers movie. Is that still possible with the economy in the tank and Hollywood egos clashing? It just seems that a venture like this is best suited in animation form, but unfortunately, people in the states still equate animation with kiddies. Has Marvel films aimed a bit too high?

No, they haven't aimed too high.

Iron Man 2 is filming right now in fact. Marvel's a proven cash cow in the film industry, by and large (with a couple of notable exceptions that were done outside of Marvel Studios). They did move around some of the release dates a couple of months back. (one film was slated for release the same weekend that Sony plans to release Spider-Man 4, I believe) But nothing really out of the ordinary. The last word was everything was going apace and according to plan.

As far as I know, they're still a go. Iron Man 2 is shooting at present, while Kenneth Branagh is prepping Thor. Samuel L Jackson has apparently signed to play Nick Fury in no less than 9(!) movies, IIRC. Most of these will be short performances, presumably longer than his IM cameo, but there may be a solo or SHIELD movie for him.

Obviously, if one or more of the solo efforts bombs, Marvel may have to review their plans, but if they continue to make Iron Man-esque moolah, the team-up/ Avengers movie should be a lock. Ed Norton seems unlikely to reprise his Bruce Banner role, so the Hulk is likely to appear only in green form, possibly as the baddie.
