Man, they cut a lot out. I thought they had because I could've sworn the original pilot was almost a 90-minute episode.

I didn't watch.

But that does suck they cut it to pieces.

So they bill it as a "special event," but really it just the same episode that's been in rerun on and off for the last eight years or so? Well done.

Well I don't remember CW ever re-airing the pilot so I guess that's why its special.

Also none of channels I have air Smallville in syndication.

I remember 4 or 5 years ago my CW affiliate aired a few Smallville episode at 9 on Saturday. Then they dropped it for Stargate Atlantis

And since this the pilot thread

Ah, so Superman is a stalker pervert. Nice.

I hope the movie doesn't portray Superman like that

Isn't it a requirement for Superman though? The first episode of Lois & Clark has Clark creeping on Lois by hovering outside her apartment while she has a heart-to-heart conversation with her sister. Making it worse is that this is five minutes after he just met her.

Also, lets not forget the "erase your memory by kissing you after we did the nasty" bit from Superman II.

I'd be more disappointed if Superman didn't show signs of being creepy.

Seriously...10 years ago it wasn't so bad...but watching it now... I know they cut a few scenes out...there was a longer scene with Pete & Chloe on the bus and Clark day dreaming while watching the football team practice...I am sure there were more...but I can't remember.

The initial airing was 70 minutes (with commercials). They did the same thing when Birds of Prey premiered.

I'll say this: in terms of straight-up minute-for-minute drama, writing, pacing and story, this pilot episode is better than any of the feature Supes films.

The Superman movies are actually about Superman. Smallville is about some douche with powers.:rommie:

Okay, I get that Clark gets douche-y in later seasons. But early on? He's a shy, nice guy and a dork (albeit a ridiculously handsome one) who sneaks some looks at his dream girl. "Douche", really?

Also, it's generally more interesting to see people in the process of becoming gods than being them - see The Matrix's Neo vs. the sequels' Neo.

Okay, so the Donnor movies had the Williams theme, but this Pilot has no "Can You Read My Mind", a love interest that's makes a lot more sense for its Clark than Kidder, better Kent parents, a compelling dramatic arc for the main character (who I frankly find more likable than Reeve's bumbling-Clark act), and a Luthor one could easily imagine growing into the other good live-action portrayal (being Spacey's). Oh, and it's got Chloe and Lionel, better side characters than any of the films'.

Is it a more faithful interpretation of the Superman character? Ask someone who gives a crap. IMHO, it's a better piece of filmmaking for sure. So, you can run and tell that... homeboys. :p
