Small blurb on potentially huge Sci Fi franchise..Hyperion

From the same guy who raped Earth Stood Still? Does Hollywood give out projects on actual merit anymore?

The rumours about a Hyperion adaptation are floating since something like 2002 ... This one actually sounds better than the previous - condense all 4 books into a single movie, making Raoul Endymion a main character played by Leo DiCaprio or something like that.

Still, I don't see how those two books can be turned into a single movie.

Yeah, it would be better as a miniseries - Hyperion is nothing if not epic. Still, I'm willing to give it a shot considering how much I loved the original books.

I love the Hyperion books. And the Endymion books.

I would like to see them turned into movies but I have doubts if Hollywood is up to such a task.

Oh well, we'll see.I hope Simmons at least is heavily involved with the script creation.

I don't see how you can fit all of the first book into one movie, how the hell do you fit multiple books into one movie?

Hyperion has too many intellectual or abstract concepts in it to be anything even close to a mainstream story. The only way I could see this work as a movie and make enough money to support to budget needed is if they just focus on the action parts of it with Kassad.

I agree! I liked the books, but the whole John Keats/TechnoCore/cybrid thing really kind of threw me a bit. If they can barely portray that in the book (at least for dummies like me), how are they going to do it on film?

agreed. the first book has miniseries written all over it. though the second book might be movie material.

still, they are great novels, and i'll certainly be there: first day, first show!

I know a longer series would probably work better, but a lot of critics consider Hyperion to be a genuine modern classic, like Foundation, or Dune, et al. I for one would love to see it done with production justice on the big screen.
