Slingers "sizzle reel"

Sabataage

I haven't seen any post about this yet, but as a scifi fan this looks rather exciting. Billed as a 60's heist movie set in space, Slingers looks like a cross between Firefly, Mad Men and Ocean's 11. Bear in mind though, while this one day might become a series, the video itself is what the industry calls a "sizzle reel". The creators of the show made this to sell the concept to other people holding large bags of money. Last I heard they were still in the early stages of a doing a pilot episode. The creator put this video on online to generate buzz. Consider me buzzed.

Check it out.

Saw this a few months ago posted on SciFi Wire.

I liked it enough, that I'd watch a pilot or miniseries.

^^ This says it's the second sizzle reel, did you see this version or the first one?

Looks cool, kind of reminds me of Cowboy Bebop but with more emphasis on caper than action.

Eh, overly-mannered stuff with annoying voiceovers don't really do it for me.

I guess it doesn't help that I find Mad Men and the Oceans' movies fairly insufferable. :rommie: Hey, how about just keeping the Firefly part of the equation and airlocking the rest?

It may have been slightly edited to step up the pacing, but all the scenes were familiar and I didn't see anything new.

It's sad that I equate the name "Slingers" with a comic book. And it's not even a comic I've read.:(:wah:

I do enjoy heist films, when they are done well. Genre jumping can be fun too. One of my favorite war movies is Kelly's Heroes.

Stylistically, visually it's intriguing for something with a low budget, but I found the narration prolix and confusing rather than entertaining.

Still, I'll definitely check it out.
