Ser Billy Butter

Ensign
Newbie
new to star trek, not NEW new, since i watched tng whenever it was on tv as a kid and rented all the tos vhs that they had at the library, but new as in now im finally diving into the deep end to the point of learning the history, klingon language, enterprise manuals, and even the philosophy behind the technologies etc... on my way to being a true trekkie one day!

im sure every trekkie question possible has been asked and picked apart at one point or another by now, and before you say, "its already been discussed if you only bothered to do a search", remember that there is literally umpteen billion trekkie posts on the internet and it is literally impossible to research each one prehand. im not data. tho he is central to the question i wish to ask professional trekkies. which i will eventually get to.

my question is, we know that data is sometimes a comedic relief, whenever he tries to act human, sometimes failing hard like when he practices sneezing, or getting stuck in fingertraps, or succeeding in roleplaying sherlock or other classic characters. my question doesnt concern the character of data tho. its about picards character. who usually keeps data in check whenever he gets too silly. which is understandable mostly, since theyre usually in a dilemma at the time and data needs to focus ffs! but in the episode where picard firsts experiences the holodeck, in the 1940s sim, we get to see his playful side finally. my main question is, (soo sorry if this has been asked 5000 times before) is, after all is resolved and they set course for a new destination, someone asks data about his experience at the very end of the episode, and data starts role playing again in his 40s character and proceeds to tell a story but then picard immediately cuts him off before end credits.

why??? doesnt it take up to weeks to get to the next destination sometimes? what better time is there than to listen to datas stories if not then??? did they sit in awkward silence until they reached the next destination or did picard make data shut up because after the credits rolled he told geordi to blast some metallica the rest of the way instead of listening to datas story? what else were they going to do to pass the time???

data, thats enough
ok :(
end credits
la forge, we're off to never never land!!!
YES SIR!!!

SAY YOUR PRAYERS LITTLE ONE, DONT FORGET, MY SON, TO INCLUDE EVERYONE......

ps... i think humanity missed the greatest opportunity ever by not casting weird al yankovic in at least one episode.

I think it's pretty funny to think sometimes about the minutes after the ending. There are quite a few where you have to assume there was a lot of awkward silence, one or more characters posing heroically, maybe a soft cough heard in the background. ;)
