SiteLogic analysis of red shirt deaths

I saw that. The chart at http://www.clicktracks.com/_images/insidetrack/star-trek-graph.jpg drove me crazy until I figured out that it only names half of the eps. I had a disturbing moment where I thought he had put a romance marker on Miri. (Ewwwww.) But how on earth does Elaan of Troyius NOT get a romance?

As usual, a detailed report telling us something we already had figured out - red shirts die a lot.

"It was found that red-shirted crewmembers tended to die in groups. In 17 red-shirt fatality episodes, 8 were multiple incidents, 9 were single incidents. In a little less than 50% of the fatal red-shirt situations, multiple crewmen were vaporized."

:guffaw: This is a must read!!!

That analysis is flawed. If something happens over 50% of the time, then that is the tendency. They died individually over half of the time, so they tend to be isolated incidents. Actually, I'd call it equally split since n (sample size)<30.

At least RED Shirt guys in Kirk's time had classier ways to die than Picard's time... In picard's time Red shirt extras never put their heads up to get shot off by a phaser, nuked by a sonic grenade, (like on cestus 3 with gorn in Kirk's day), or even stepping on a foamy looking rock that exploded.

Classic Trek Red Shirt Deaths RULE!

Wow. I never realized that NOTHING BUT REDSHIRT GUYS died in season 3. And the last command division crew member to die was in Catspaw??? Quite the trend.

i actually liked Catspaw... if you notice when Kirk sees the skeleton in the dungeon, that he doesn't call Mccoy Bones. He calls him Doc...

I like the humor that Spock did not know or understand what trick or treat was. :)

Didn't Lt. D'Amato wear a blue shirt? He died in season three's "That Which Survives". Is that an error in those statistics?
