Legendary movie production designer Ken Adam has died at the age of 95.
Perhaps most well-known for the futuristic super-villain sets in the James Bond series, he could go from slightly shabby London in the Ipcress File to Georgian drawing room splendor in Barry Lyndon with equal excellence. Besides the iconic War Room, his designs for the then-top secret interior of a B-52 bomber in Dr Strangelove proved to be so accurate that it was said he received a visit from the FBI.
Though born in Germany, Adam joined the RAF and flew Typhoon ground-attack fighters in WW2. If he had been captured, he might have been shot as a traitor because of his citizenship.
I was a big fan of his work from way back, and it was cool to think he was still around. RIP.
