Indeed. Another point of interest is that McCoy is off halfway through, a little before the end of Act II, and in And The Children Shall Lead (except for the final moments). On both occasions he assesses the medical problems and disappears afterwards. It's only because we are so engrossed in the action, we tend to forget this.

Spock was dead right!!! How many of us were after that book, comic or DVD for years and once we've got it had it relegated to the back of the cupboard? Or that lady you keep seeing and want to get to know? Once you're married to her how quick things change for the worse...
