Sims 3 E3 trailer...

^ Sounds like good old-fashioned Simlish, to me...

This looks like it could revitalize my interest in the franchise... we'll see what it looks like when it comes out. :)

Graphics look exactly like TS2 to me. Still, being able to go from lot to lot without a 2 minute loading screen is nice.

Doesn't look much different from Sims 2 to me. *shrug*

Kinda only sorta on topic, but a Canadian band which Canadave hooked me up with a few months back, and which I really like alot recently put out a video which I got a kick out of:

Personally, I think it's better than the trailer!

Sam Roberts rocks! :techman:

What is wrong with Sims 2 graphics? The game is changed massively, you live in a neighborhood now and not just a house cut off from the world.

and that doesn't sound like Simlish too me.

Agreed. There's not that much change in the design/appearance of the sims (even the environment feels similar, except sharper). I kinda got a sneak peek of it already from the current Free Time expansion, and I must say it doesn't have that much attention-grabbing appeal apart from the new game dynamics. I read a review of the game in the June issue of Play magazine, which praised the sim's ability to roam around the neighborhood.

Yeah, if it ain't broke...

I do wonder if the changes will be enough incentive to make folks rush out and buy it though. Especially for someone who's sunk a fortune into 2 and all the expansions.

Wonder if it'll be backwards compatible with Sims2 stuff?

Scalability is no doubt the biggest reason why the graphics haven't changed too much. EA & Maxis probably want this thing to run smoothly on the widest range of hardware possible.

As with Sims 2, the mod community will improve everything from the Sims to the scenery tenfold within a few months.

Sims 2 was a significant graphical update over Sims 1, and Sims 2 is as old now as Sims 1 was when Sims 2 was released. There's nothing wrong with staying well behind the technical curve to reach a wide playerbase, but minimal technical improvements between games released some five years apart is a little odd.

Hey, I'm SO SO sorry to dredge up an old thread (I wasn't sure whether to post this in the current Sims 2 thread or this one since it's actually Sims 3 news) but I just stumbled across the fact that there's been a release date announcement for the Sims 3 of February 20, 2009 and it's already available for pre-order on Amazon.

I do have to say it's not nearly the wait we had last time between Makin' Magic and the original Sims 2 (there was nearly a year wait there I think due to some errors that pushed the release date back if I remember right? Hope that doesn't happen again). While I've thoroughly enjoyed Sims 2 gameplay I have the say that after the amazing leap between the original Sims and the Sims 2 I'm really looking forward to seeing what they come up with for the next release, it should be amazing. That video trailer just whetted my appetite and I can't wait until February!

The game does look interesting, but I'm not quite in a hurry to "replace" Sims 2 just yet. I'm curious, but I can't say I'm eagerly looking forward to it.

Hopefully it does what happened when Sims 2 came out, and drops the prices of the expansions to 2 to bargain basement levels. Then I might start playing 2 again. :D

Well somebody had to.

Always happy to see a game franchise thats not TOO obnoxious doing well. Even though in this case I doubt I'll be buying. Got tired of TS2 after about two months. All the game time I had to spend eating, sleeping, and going to the bathroom just didn't seem to leave much time for actually having fun in the game. My sims always seemed to be teetering on the brink of exaustion and starvation.
