Similarities between OGAM Plot and ST:XI Plot Rumors??

As some of you probably know, Part One of the internet film 'Star Trek: Of Gods and Men' was released online yesteday, December 22. There was a scene in which the antagonist character (I won't spoil who it is) is with the Gaurdian of Forever (Uhura, Chekov, and Harriman are there also). The GOF is showing an image of Earth, which then zooms in on the center of the United States (to about the area of Iowa). The GOF then shows us a pregnant woman standing in front of a barn. At that point, the antagonist jumps through the GOF, then the GOF states to Chekov, Uhura and Harriman that "All that you know has been altered".

Hmmm. The plot for 'OGAM' so far seems to be this: A bad guy uses the Guardian of Forever to go back in time and does something to a Pregnant woman on an Iowa Farm that alters the Star Trek timeline.

Doesn't that sound a lot like the some of the alledged plot rumors surrounding Abrams' Star Trek? I'm thinking that whoever those rumor mongers were that started the ST:XI plot rumors got their stories all mixed up -- the inside information they claimed they had could have been for 'OGAM' and not ST:XI.

Oh yeah...remember one of the other ST:XI plot rumors from a few months ago regarding the destruction of the Planet Vulcan?. Well, the planet Vulcan was blown up at the end of Part 1 of 'OGAM'.

^ TA-DA ! ^

This is why one takes Internet rumors with a salt mine in Utah by the great salt lake itself ;)

I think it's clear that if you think that none of what "Moriarity" reported was accurate, you'll be shocked in December of 2008. :)

Does that mean we get to read thousands of threads dedicated to how JJ Abrams "stole" his movie from the guys who gave us "OF Gods and Men"?

Can't wait... since it will be those most agianst "Trek XI" that will be championing OgAM as "True Trek".

I decided to watch it. It's good fun, and as they said about "In A Mirror, Darkly", sort of revenge of the day players. It's very impressive that they did so much, on what had to be a quite minimal budget.

I liked the plot as sort of a alternate Trek Novella to screen. I don't know that I would want to see something like it as Trek XI, but I'd quite happily finish watching it to find out what happens next. It did have quite a lot of gumption. :)

^^...and in the classic Ray Bradbury science-fiction short story 'A Sound of Thunder', it was just a butterfly.

A short story in one of the Strange New Worlds anthologies also puts forth what would happen if Kirk was no longer the captain of the Enterprise, specifically if he stepped down after COTEF rather then him being erased from all history. IIRC, Robert Wesley takes over the five-year mission with some disastrous results, Morrow is in command during the events of TWOK and never retrieves Spock's revived body, which causes McCoy to spend the rest of his life in a sanitarium. Also, Earth is destroyed by the Cetacean Probe since no one went back in time to save the whales.

What a stupid plot. Kirk is just a captain. What the hell does killing mum going to do?

History his made up of *people* take one out of the mix all history changes and clearly Kirk is important otherwise we wouldn't be wasting our time watching his adventures. The average Fed Capitan and crew's likely not nearly as action packed as the Enterprise and her crew.

^Also, to borrow from Quantum Leap, one life effects many lives even if we don't see it in the history books. One person encounters another person who goes on to encounter other people. How do those connections change and affect people's lives? While we are condition to believe that our lives are ordinary and have no significant impact and that only politicians, celebs, and royalty can change the world, our little lives do cause change in other people's lives even if it isn't on a grand scale. So it is possible that the death of one man could alter the world and the course of all history.

I'm sick of all this Kirk is the da man crap. Kirk for all intents and purposes in the Star Trek Universe is just another Federation Captain. What has he ever done that was so important other then start a war and end it faster then you can say "Happy Hanukkah"? Nothing.

All of this "Kirk is so awesome" in the Star Trek storyline was created by fanboy writers who never gave a real reason why he is famous. Don't all Captains have a 5 year mission.

You sure come out with some corkers, don't you?

Why is he held in such high esteem in the Trek Universe? It might have something to do with saving the Planet on multiple occasions...

I always find it more entertaining to imagine that all starship captains spend their time pretty much like Kirk. Sure would make for an interesting Universe - probably something like the DC and Marvel Universes.

Personally, if the universe really was in danger of being blown up about once a week, as it must've been if Kirk's adventures are the norm, I'd be pretty stressed out.
