Sim City 4 OH NOES

Plecostomus

Commodore
Last night I get home with a "new" copy of Sim City 4 purchased from a thrift-store. Installed it at 5PM, started playing, next thing I look up and it's 4am. WHOOPS.

So, any active fan communities out there still? Alot of the links I'm clicking are dead. Mostly I'm looking to download premade cities and regions to torment.

I once accidentally traded that game in at Gamestation and when I realised I went ballistic and ended up going to the shop and buying it again.
It's on of those games that after a few months becomes playable again.

That game will do that to you. In fact, as soon as I tire of Call of Duty 4 again, I intend to finally get SC4 installed on my new computer!

^I read reviews that its worse than Sim City 4. I love this game, playing it on and off. It can indeed be very time consuming and addictive.

SimCity 4 is by far the best in the series, although it is a little dated by today's standards. I loved that game too. You're not the only one who has been addicted to it ;)

Thanks for the link. I'm finding empty "regions" to download but no cities. Am I missing something here or do people not upload/exchange city files?

I strongly recommend avoiding Societies unless you are just interested in a very simple time killer. The entire point of Societies is to keep everyone happy. And you keep everyone happy by placing another building down. Yahtzee explains the whole thing very well:

I used to play Sim City Societies, but the darned game kept crashing, so I had to uninstall it.

SimCity Societies was a spectacular failure. First off, it was a major departure from the previous format. So it came with a built in angry mob of purists before the game even hit the shelves. And as it turns out, the game never had a chance to prove itself, because it was as unstable as a newborn giraffe. From the moment it was released the SCS boards were one non stop roar of hatred. For months. Straight. Never seen anything like it.

You must be new to Star Trek then. Check out our Trek XI forum, you'll find the amount of humanity and good cheer there astounding.

I don't go in there. But even without clicking on the link, I can still feel the waves of crazy spilling out.

Sim City 4 is truly excellent. I love how expansive it is compared to previous Sim Cities - especially its economic simulation.

I got it 4 years ago, wanting to play it on my computer. It was barely good enough to chug along at first, but by the time I had 100,000 or so people, the game just got too slow and ran itself into the ground.

Thankfully, it runs great on the computer I purchased last year. I was so excited to finally play "Sim City 4" for more than just the beginning. And it definitely lived up to what I have been long-since waiting for.

I really enjoy SimCity 4. I don't play much, though. I'll usually have pretty long breaks between playing. But when I play, I can also end up finding that hours have past :D. It happened to me not too long ago, actually.

I still think SimCity 2000 is the best entry in the series so far. But SimCity 4 is close on its heels, I think.

Yeah my computer is too old for SC4, however I like 3000 and 2000. My problem with 4 is the fact it's too micro managing, I don't want that.

I'll stick with 3000. :)

Yeah, ST is your best bet, though SC4 Devotion is pretty good too. Unfortunately, the LEX (their file exchange) is terribly organized, so I try to stick to the STEX as much as possible.

Also, you'll know you're far too involved in the game when it takes five minutes for it to start because of all the mods and plugins you've installed. ;)
