Silly idea i had about Jeffreys Tubes

jealousblues

Lieutenant

in many episodes we've seen people crawling slowly and probably painfully through the jeffreys tubes (many times for great distances or in a race against time)

so I pose this question:

Why didnt anyone ever put a cart in there?
Maybe something motorized you could call from one end to the other in a pinch, or even a manual cart (like the things mechanics use under cars)?

I guess it would make for less dramatic scenes.

I haven't thought this through fully, but maybe artificial gravity should be turned off in there. It would make it easier to move around.

I'm sure if it wasn't for the budgetary constraints of originally making a TV show in the 60s, this would have been the case.

Why even build miles of important access tubes that one must crawl through on your knees across metal grating? In TFF...

... and TNG's "The Hunted"...

... we see very similar Jefferies Tubes that one can stand in. Why not more of those? There never seems to be a shortage of space on Federation starships.

At least they added them to Connies in ENT:

They should pump water through the jefferies tubes, then everyone can just throw on a swimsuit and ride the jefferies tubes. That would be so rad.

You don't need to have silly ideas about Jeffreys tubes since they are a silly idea in the first place.

But it's so much fun! :rommie:

I've had this debate before in other threads. I am usually drowned out by the shouting CANONites who believe the Enterprises were God-given designs which should never be questioned.
Personally, I have always thought that while majestic and beautiful to view, the StarFleet ships (Connie-type) are not very logical or practical designs. Why should anyone have to crawl that far to fix a problem (other than dramatic effect)?
If, as some suggest, there is a safety issue with placing the nacelles that far away from the rest of the ship, then make it easier for someone to get their ass out there to save everyone!

Well, I think the tubes are a lot better these things, don't you agree? :shifty:
