Silent Enemy.. A few thoughts.

1I agree Kaelef! .Even in season 2 I remember cringing at how his character was written in 'Minefield' for example I'd say the relationship with Trip made him a bit more 'Natural'...Also the war arc in season 3 helped! And I think Manny Coto made more of an effort with the character - not sure how ii feel about the big reveal in season 4 but at least it tried to explain some of his more reserved characteristics! Always amused us Brits seeing Keating in the part as he was only known in UK really from his role in a cult comedy called 'Desmonds! I have to say I thought Keating as an actor did quite a bit with not much in the early days!
Your last sentence reminds me of hearing DK remark at one con I attended that for the first four episodes he spent most of his time on set wondering about hanging curtains in the Situation Room.

I liked pretty much everything about the alien race. They did feel like they were intended to be B-movie aliens, right down to their weapons that reminded me of the green disintegrators in War of the World (STO takes it one step further and gives them tripod walkers). Absolutely loved the mystery and dread that surrounded them.

It honestly felt like everything they did was deliberately intended to screw with the crew. They're like space based internet trolls.

Yeah it's a great episode.....

For the same reason that I love Dead Stop, that thing is still out there.

I just watched this episode and it was a shame we didn’t see this alien race again. They were menacing for a race that didn’t speak much and it did provide a development in Enterprise’s tech that had to be addressed sooner than later.

I remember really loving this episode when it originally aired. I still do.

It's been ages since I saw this, but I remember thinking they spent FAR too much time worrying about Malcolm's birthday during a hostile alien attack.

Almost like the aliens were the B plot and birthday boy the A.

This episode is among my favourites and after all these years I still give it a good 7/10. I do agree about the Reed plot. It just felt like they had to pad the episode out with something though.

The reed plot was definitely the B story. An appropriate amount of time was given to it.

Great character building episode for Archer. Finally he realizes he frellin out-gunned and is putting his crew at risk. He's gotten lucky a couple times, I'm glad they showed him truly getting his ass kicked. I think it's very real that he would decide to take the ship back.

Real Aliens!!! Bravo! I think they looked pretty cool... I love that they wouldn't talk with them. Also love how they eventually communicated with the ship using their own words!!

I also like how the crew want to work to stay out there. I'll part with Jammer and say that they hadn't worked to upgrade their weapons because they weren't allowed to. It's not something that Archer would just order because of the risk involved. Circumstances pushed him into agreeing to give it a shot.

I thought the play between Malcolm and Trip was very realistic. Lets face it, the weapons officer is junior to the Chief Engineer for a reason.

I enjoyed the push to find out more about Malcolm. No problem with Hoshi doing the research, what else is she supposed to do? It doesn't need to be earth shattering stuff.... what did you want, someone boinking his girlfriend? .... we found out that he is a military brat that is pretty much a loner. ... more than we knew before. More to come in the future I'm sure.

I thought the cake at the end was a nice touch.

8/10

I like that, I do like that there is mystery as to who the aliens were and that it was never resolved. Too many shows try to solve everything. This was great that they did that.
7/10
Mysterious/enigmatic. With a technological edge. Something like UFO lore, but with the encounter in space.
