Shran in ZBrush

Do you know if Zbrush is exportable to Lightwave? I model/texture and animate in Lightwave, seeing this makes me want to try.

Yep, you can export into Lightwave. I know that the entertainment industry uses ZBrush all the time, especially in video games. All of the models from Gears of War and Assassin's Creed, for example, were sculpted/detailed in ZBrush.

Check out pixologic.com. You can download a free, fully functioning, 30-day trial of ZBrush.

Not much done again, just worked on the eyes and the facial pose. I'm experimenting with different techniques to make the hair, so it's taking a little while.

I'm trying to get that Shran eye squint pose in there. I'm also trying to find the right material for him. I found this one, but unfortunately it renders pretty bad.

Looks good but I have a quick question: Is the model symmetrical across the centerline? If so, I'd look for the imperfections in your source material because human faces are not symmetrical (close but not quite.)

Thanks! As of now, yes, the model is pretty much symmetrical. I'm going to toggle off symmetry pretty soon though, once I start getting more serious with the details and pose... and the hair.

So, I finally blocked in the hair. I have a lot of work to do with it.
Do you plan to move this into another package, or leave it in Z-Brush?

I've never liked "sculpted" hair. It's impossible to end up with a character who doesn't look like a member of DEVO, if you ask me.

If you're going to take this into Poser, or Maya, or anything else with hair and/or fur simulation, you're far better off using those tools to do the hair.

Just my 2cents...

Outstanding. You've certainly captured his likeness. But I worry you're gonna hit the uncanny valley really fast with this if you try to animate it. There's already a bit of a morgue-stare in his eyes, but better lighting and very careful adjustment of his eyes should help reduce that. By all means, though, push it as far as you can, this is really good!

Thanks guys!

Unfortunately, I only have ZBrush to work with. Which actually kind of addresses your comment, Psion. I'm not able to really animate it.

On the plus side, I found a matcap that I like for his eyes. It allowed me to make the following render:
