Should there be 2 Referees in Football of the English Variety

I'm engaged in a drunken, impossible argument with a friend at the pub.

I say yes. He says no. Please help decide.

Btw, the best I can explain my postion is that it will help create morew parity, which every league needs.

Not sure about the NFL, but in the NRL here, they tried it, and didn't work that well.
