Should Star Trek have gone all the way with the sex scene? (SPOILERS)

Kirk and Orion chick, should they have done a full sex scene there?

Would that have made the movie more 'grown up' and mature, or would it have been immature and cliche?

We all know Kirk is a ladies man, and there is no denying he was having sexual intercourse with that alien. So the question, should they have shown a sex scene, and how would it have affected the movie?

I could have done without it. Kirk had a lot of ladies over the years and he didn't have to be taped having sex with any of them. It just seems to be the big thing in this day and age to throw in a sex scene that wasn't needed.

No, I don't think so. Even the Bond films always had the good sense to just sort of imply that the sex has happened. I honestly don't feel a Trek movie, or it's story, would be improved or advanced by showing nudity and simulated intercourse or other sexual acts. It would just seem gratuitous and "tacked-on" for the sake of titillation. I really feel that Trek is better than that......plus, lots of the biggest fans ARE children, after all. Why sully it needlessly for them?

That is what I prefer. I mean, I am not against sex scenes in a movie but at least throw it in if it's necessary and not just to have some excuse to show some soft porn.

Cliche. There was no need for on-screen sexcapades with the Orion chick. No need to see Spock and Uhura going at it either, even though they surely were. Sometimes less is more.

My rule of thumb is this: if there's some real emotional content, i.e., a "love scene," you can go farther. Otherwise, it's just softcore porn.

I don't think it would've added anything to the scene, I even believe it would've slowed down the pacing of the movie.

You know, 99% of the people today watch porn or have watched porn (while only 45% admit it). We don't need overt sex in movies like these, go watch your porn for that.

No, for once let's have a good quality Star Trek movie with a good story and great technology. Leave the sex alone finally. It proves we can have a great movie to watch without all that. It is about time a #1 movie can prove it doesn't need sex to make it to #1.

Very true, unlike the fan made episodes who think they need to do that to get a good following..they are losing their fan base too because of it, it is not needed in Star Trek.

i think the scene was just perfect. surprising when we all found out she was green! and we got to see a little bit of uhura.
