Should someone have a pet in this remake? I remember Sulu had a bunch of weird plants on TOS, but that doesn't really count.

But it's not on the ship, Sam. It's in his San Francisco Apartment. That's canon, fo' sure.

FUNny thread. If I were the canonical type (and I'm not) I'd say that Porthos added absolutely nothing to the show at all. We'll except that carpet cleaning technology must have improved by the time they built the NX-01.
