Should Paramount consider filming Trek XII and XIII back-to-back..??

With the security that Trek is a lucrative franchise again, would Paramount be wise to film Trek XII and XIII back-to-back, similar to what was done with Back To The Future II and III or LOTR..? They would be able to release a Trek film in two consecutive years and spare many productional costs. They must be aware that the Trek franchise lends itself so well for sequels, so I hope they will really utilize that potentional.

I would say no to that. There is no such thing as an absolute guarantee. I say play it safe. And on top of that, I don't want a trek movie back to back. I say let the fans sweat a little bit ;) Theres something about waiting a few years for a movie to come out that just makes it more exciting

Re: Should Paramount consider filming Trek XII and XIII back-to-back..

Wasn't this also done with The Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions?

We all know how badly THAT ended. I'm gonna say NO as well.

Then again All 3 LOTR movies were filmed back to back, and they were hailed as an achievement in filmmaking by the Academy.

Depends on the final box office take. Might be a way to cut expenses...

Re: Should Paramount consider filming Trek XII and XIII back-to-back..

If that means we get a proper engineering set... might as well.

Another example - Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest & At World's End. While DMC had the highest worldwide gross of that franchise, AWE was a step down & was widely considered a disappointment.

I also say NO to filming back-to-back. LOTR was lightning in a bottle, an achievement unlikely to be duplicated any time soon.

EDIT ADD: LOTR had the advantage, also, of being based on an existing novel. Yes, the filmmakers changed things, but they had the overall story in place before they even started writing the script for the three films. Not so with BTTF, Matrix, and Pirates.

Re: Should Paramount consider filming Trek XII and XIII back-to-back..

Sort of. I think a 6 month gap between both shoots, and then a year to eighteen months between films.

Re: Should Paramount consider filming Trek XII and XIII back-to-back..

I say film XII, XIII, XIV, XV, and XVI consecutively. great way to cut costs.

Re: Should Paramount consider filming Trek XII and XIII back-to-back..

I wish they would film the next two back to back. That's how Peter Jackson shot the Lord of the Rings films and I think that worked well. We got a guaranteed new film every two years.

I don't want to be in my rocking chair with gray hair watching the next Trek.

Re: Should Paramount consider filming Trek XII and XIII back-to-back..

I think they should constantly be filming Trek movies and releaseing them as quickly as quality standards will allow... like a big, giant TV series.

Yes, they should milk this cow.

The chair in my theater rocked a bit, and my hair already is gray. So bite me.

Quasar's point was that s/he is NOT currently in a rocking chair, and doesn't want to wait that long to see the next film. Nothing negative was said about seniors. Just about WAITING a long time for the next movie.

Re: Should Paramount consider filming Trek XII and XIII back-to-back..

I say no...let's not get greedy (like Paramount did in the '90s and totally saturated the mark with Trek.) Trek XII in 2011 and Trek XIII in 2013 (not filmed back to back to ensure the highest quality possible) and then possibly a new TV series set in the late 23rd/early 24th Century Abramsverse...

Re: Should Paramount consider filming Trek XII and XIII back-to-back..

If its essentially a three part story, yes.

Re: Should Paramount consider filming Trek XII and XIII back-to-back..

LOTR was already released as a trilogy since the 1950's; I don't know if that leads to the production method making more sense. But millions of readers expected it that way for decades.

Yes, I know. I was making a self-deprecating joke about my age.

Don't be so pendantic.

Exactly. Thanks for clarifying...:)
