Should I cancel my Dell DVI free laptop order

That Weirdo In The Corner

Commander
Red Shirt
it's a great system for the price, fairly ugly though, the problem I have with it is that is only comes with a VGA and s-video out no DVI.
I can't fathom why Dell still make laptops without DVI, it's not a problem at the moment but I'm bound to buy an HDTV during the life of the laptop so it may grate as time passes.

Should I cancel I can't imagine I will be able to buy such a great spec laptop for the same price, not in the UK anywway.

I never though I would ever buy anything from Dell but I've just gone and done it, my system spec is;

Vostro 1500 (it was cheaper using the small business site)

CORE 2 DUO T7300 2.00GHz,800,4M
15.4 WXGA+ True Life 1440x900
2048 MB 667 MHz Dual-Channel DDR2 SDRAM (2x 1024 MB)
Hard Drive 160GB Serial ATA (5400RPM)
Fixed Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Drive
Primary 9-cell 85WHr Li-Ion Battery
256 MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
Intel® Pro Wireless 3945 802.11a/b/g Mini-PCI Card EUR (no pre N)
English - Vista Business (don't really care about Media Center)

for £645 (UK pounds) including delivery and VAT

At the moment it's no problem at all but, one day I'll have my HDTV or flat panel monitor.

I've done some investigating (not owned a laptop before) and it looks like Dell will come out with a docking station and Belkin make a port replicator that will include a DVI out. I can rationalise the extra cost when I need to buy one :)

I'm a born worrier.

There are some very cheap DVI->VGA adapters out there. You may lose some quality on the adapter, but I wouldn't think this minor item (that won't even be a problem for you for quite some time) should be a deal-breaker.

DVI to VGA is easy the problem is it would be VGA to DVI which isn't so easy or cheap.

what you are describing DVI to VGA is what I would prefer.

If you can get one with a proper DVI output you should.

The difference really shows at higher resolutions.

at the moment I'm going to let the order stick and worry about the lack of DVI-d later.

It's just bizare to have a laptop with a DirectX 10 graphics card that can do HDCP and then not put a HDCP capable connector on it.

I've been locking around and the closet match for the Dell is an Acer Aspire laptop
