Ships Entering the Wormhole............

..........had to drop their cloaks....why?

Tal Shiar/OO dropped cloaks before entering and the Defiant always cloaked on the GQ side are my references

Could shields be used?

Would weapons work?

Would the WH even "work" for a cloaked ship?

...the prophets considered it rude. As punishment they were known to subject entire species to telemarketing for their entire timeline.

Well, they said the wormhole was artificially created by the wormhole aliens. So maybe it has to "see" what is going to pass through to react by opening the passage? And if you cloak inside, it stops "seeing" you and the path collapses - which probably isn't good, to put it mildly.

The Defiant cloaked in the Alpha Quadrant durin' 'The Way of the Warrior'.

Since the wormhole only opened when ships approached, cloaked ships wouldn't be able to enter the wormhole. Invisible ships wouldn't trigger it. That the Alpha Quadrant powers believed cloaked ships wouldn't be able to travel through the wormhole makes it all the dumber that they thought a cloaked Dominion fleet was triggerin' the wormhole in the fifth season finale.

That's valid fan speculation, but the characters themselves never said they'd think this way. To the contrary, when the wormhole opened all by itself and nobody came out in "Homefront", the heroes thought the natural explanation for that was that somebody was sending cloaked ships through.

It was a trick by Admiral Leyton's cohorts, of course - smart enemies would send their cloakships in along with a legitimate and visible ship, to avoid attracting this sort of attention. But the heroes still thought cloaked ships would get through.

I don't think we really need to "explain" this subject much. The Romulans and Cardassians in "The Die is Cast" decloaked for show - they wanted everybody to see that they were sending a mighty fleet to defend Alpha. And the Defiant had no reason to cloak before entering Gamma, as her arrival would not have been any more secret even if she did cloak. As the "Homefront" example shows, invisibility doesn't make anybody unnoticeable when using the wormhole!

Perhaps the chonoton particles had an unusual effect in the wormhole meaning it was only safe to cloak outside of it.

In terms of the defiant they were not supposed to use the cloak in the AQ anyway but did sometimes break that rule.
