ship VS ship

ship VS ship...which is more appealing to the eyes

Most of the time, it seems, when we talk about favorite ships from various SCIFI tv-or-movie productions, it always falls along performance. Me? I usually don’t really care how a ship performs I am more swayed by how she looks. That’s been my trouble with women too…but I digress.

In a series of polls I will pit two ships against each other. The only criteria we are voting on is how they look. Not how fast they go, or how many turrets it has. Just pure beauty; and that is always in the eye of the beholder.

Since this is a TREK site, I am going to use the most famous TREK ship of all time.

Ship VS Ship #001

In one corner we have the NCC-1701. And I mean the one from the series, not the refit version blown up in SEARCH FOR SPOCK. The one that started it all…..

Vs

In the other corner we have the Original Battlestar Galactica. Again, not the one from the current series, but the one from the late 70s TV-show…

So…comparing these to historic SCIFI vessles, which one is more appealing to your eyes? In three days I will announce the winner!

Personally...neither. As both are products of that '60s/'70s era. Especially now that we have modern counterparts to compare them with. I'm that way with cars too, but I digress. ;)

Meaning that I usually don't care for aged designs when we have more modern or new versions to compare'em to. For example, would I rather have a 1989 Dodge Ram, or a 2009 Dodge Ram? (I actually have a 1999 Dodge Ram for reference) I'd take the 2009 Ram for sure.

Anyway, why don't you do polls in comparisons two of the same kind of ships, but of different eras. For example, the Republic Cruisers as seen in The Clone Wars and the Imperial-Class Star Destroyers. It'd be a more fair comparison, because you're going on just looks with your idea here, so it'd be more fair to compare apples and apples, rather than apples and oranges here, right?

Well, that would be too 'by the book'. Where is the fun in that??

And as for not liking the aged ships, you have that right. So if you don't like the poll, make your own and I will vote there too...would like to see what you come up with...

The Enterprise.

It's a close one. The original Battlestar is a beauty too, but the Enterprise wins. So graceful.

Yeah...it was close. And I just watched, gasped, Galactica 1980 last night. And then I watched the episode of Galactica when Baltar/Eastern Alliance dudes broke out jail. I actually prefer the old BSG to the new one. I am not sure why, but I do..

But the Enterprise is what she is...a beauty. Maybe if Galactica had more milage out of it (meaning episodes) I might have gone with her...but the Enterprise is branded upon the inside of my brain.....

I'd have to go with the Enterprise. Not only do I actually like it better, but the Galactica looks like a reconfigured version of the Enterprise as designed for a Star Wars film. That's not to say I don't like the Galactica, it's just no Enterprise.

Did JOHN DYKSTRA come up with the design of the Galactica? I don't remember...

My favorite was TNG's Enterrprise-D or the alien ships in B5 and DS9

Personally...neither. As both are products of that '60s/'70s era.

Here's what the CGI amounts to

Zoic are probably wishing Firefly was never canceled and wishing they were still making Spiderman movies with Sam Raimi and John Dykstra considering the bulk of drama drivel they had to trudge through in nu-BSG

The Enterprise is just beautiful. I quite like the rugged look of the old Galactica, but it doesn't match up. I like the new one more than the old, but still nowhere near as much as the Enterprise.
