Shatnerverse mini documentary with Shatner and the Reeves-Stevens from Roddenberry Archive and OTOY

This was very enjoyable. I forget sometimes that the Reeves-Stevens are Canadian, so the vowel stresses threw me on occasion.

I was fascinated by the information about unpublished books in the Academy trilogy. I wonder who the Klingon exchange student at Starfleet Academy might've been, because I feel they would have used an existing character. Given the autobiographical nature of the Shatnerverse -- which Garfield RS talks about in the video -- I feel like Chang would have been best in light of the early relationship/rivalry between Shatner and Christopher Plummer on the stage, even if it doesn't work with Chang's dialogue about wanting to meet Kirk in Star TreK VI. I don't think Kor would work, but Koloth might.

That's odd, nothing seemed unusual to me?:lol:

Seriously, though, I either didn't know, or knew at one point and forgot, that the Reeves-Stevenses were Canadian. Just checked, and Judith is from Alberta, and Garfield is from a couple hours up the highway in Oakville. Thanks for mentioning this!

The Reeves-Stevenses always seemed to have a good memory for continuity and odd bits of Star Trek history. I wonder if it would have been Kumara from the ADF Star Trek Logs? I believe the backstory that ADF had come up with was that Kirk and Kumara had met through some kind of exchange program in their academy days.

The last Kelvin Timeline entry in the franchise was almost a decade ago, now, so I wouldn't think there would be any need to maintain a moratorium on Academy stories, especially since this one would be a "prime timeline" tale. I wonder if there's any possibility of S&S reviving the series at this late date? I would buy them! :)

Has that outline for book 2 that they discussed (and showed excerpts from) ever been released publicly?

it's interesting how they had to change the last two books, and drop ideas because it clashed with Paramount, however they were literally weaving through the TV shows/films of the time - Voyager's disappearance/the Dominion War/the launch of the E/post-Nemesis

It was strange but 'fascinating' (see my avatar) to have 'modern' Trek stories which starred Captain Kirk, very much alive and kicking
