Shatner's $170m lawsuit from 59 year old claiming to be his son.

I think he's accusing the wrong man of paternity. He looks nothing like Shat to me.Not sure if Jack Nicholson would pay out as well.

Honestly, i didn't look at any of the links, but the guy is pretty good looking, is wearing pretty decent looking threads, and looks to be enjoying a moment here anyway, of demonstrating a pretty good disposition. Obviously not knowing what kind of acting chops he might have, I could easily see him having had a career as a bit player at least, if not something more. Anyone would likely claim that they would like that kind of payout, but at this age, one wonders about the motivation other than building up an internet following. OK, i just took a look at some references and aside from hosting radio shows, he's a big shot insurance broker, according to his website . I don't know something seems to missing, perhaps his marbles.

Assuming this goes anywhere, all it takes is one judge who doesn't want a specticle, has common sense and cares, and this doughbag gets nowhere. You can file. You can file all day long. But getting a day in court over it is another thing. Any sensible judge would dimiss the case in pre-trial and reprimand the guy for even bringing the case to the court.

The lawsuit was seeking $30 million in compensatory damages, $90 million in punitive damages and $50 million for pain and suffering.

a) Compensation for what, having a rich Daddy?

b) Can a filthy rich super celeb pay me fifty million fucking dollars for the pain and suffering in my life?

I'm not speaking to the legitimacy of his claim. But, really? $170'000'000?

It's not even a good stupid lawsuit. I remember one from one of those Dumb Criminals books from the 1990's:

The guy had committed some crime, like theft, and he sued himself claiming he had violated his own rights in committing the crime and asked that the state pay him on his behalf since he was a ward of the state and destitute.

^^^ Or like the occasional criminals who break into someone's house to steal something and wind up tripping on the rug, breaking their ass and suing the homeowner. I've lost track of how many of those I've seen on the evening news over the years.

Although that one you mentioned of the guy suing himself was pretty unique! They should have just given it to him as an award for ingenuity and original thinking!

^ That's such an asshole / clearly doomed to fail / most ballsy frivolous lawsuit, that it should be taught in every law school (if its not already). Incredible.

This is the only reason I don't purposely booby-trap my place against burglers a la Home Alone.

I know this cobblers for real! About five years ago we were burgled and later on we planned to secure our home against any further attacks with Police help! But for one we weren't allowed to put any defensive nails, glass, tacks on the wall in case the burglar injured himself nor were we allowed to build anything on 'our wall' if it was larger than six foot as we would have to pay the council money! Pay them for what? The help they gave us which was nothing? Even the Police officer tried to get them to drop their demands but alas not to be. In the end we found out if the defensive barrier is natural then they cannot sue you if they get injured! Thorns and trees growing over your wall are your only defence in this upside down world!

I remember a guy -- maybe a decade ago -- that fell threw a ceiling skylight while on the roof trying to break in and rob the home owner. He injured himself on the fall. He sued the home owner he was trying to rob, and won. It was something like the home owner had failed to provide reasonably safer measures to keep somebody from falling threw the glass-covered hole and injur themselves.

Then there was a guy over in Britain who had a gun which was banend by the government. Somebody broke into the house, I think there was a struggle, and he had to fire on the bad fucking burgler. They arrested the home owner, too, for having the firearm. I hope that wasn't reported in the newspaper; can you imagine being a criminal and reading it? "Shaddy sod Dwayne Dibley was arrested Tuesday after breaking and entering and a struggle with the home owner. The owner of 1234 Yellowtooth Circle was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and is currently being held for trial." -- BINGO! Empty house!

That is exactly what we poor Brits have to put up with over here my friends! A society where we are not allowed to fight back against aggressors! While we are only permitted a limited defense we must value our attackers health too! No wonder British governments are loathed totally throughout our country! Law is supposed to protect the innocent not to be used as a business like it is here and in the US!

I vaguely recall that, except i believe it was some kind of public building (like a school or museum) and the insurance agency settled out of court for some lesser amount so as to not lose a trial for a larger amount.

Well he's obviously charging Shatner for not being there and supplying him with all the goodies as a kid I guess and putting him in his will too!
