Shatner wants Pine to play him.

Sure, silly comment. Not the best topic ever. But I think it's awesome that Shatner said this.

One of the best moments in Star Trek 09 was when Uhura confronted Kirk and said 'I hope you know what you're doing.....captain'.
In that little moment when he responds 'So do I' I saw Shatner's TOS Kirk, where he always made sure the crew saw him as a confident leader, but his insecurity at not always being sure he was doing the right thing came through. He didn't copy Shatner, but he embodied that part of TOS Kirk quite well....

It'll get a kick out of seeing Chris Pine when they get to the '70s and '80s.

he would have to shave the op of his head and glue on a hairpiece.

What a great idea, I would live to see a film about William Shatner Staring Chris Pine that showed how the original Star Trek came to be made with all the inside information.

This actually brings to mind a fan video I saw where they played the dejavu song and compared each character to the TOS version. They have a short clip with Pine and Shatner with the same exact face expression, and I was like wow. I actually think Pine and Quinto really rang true for their earlier counterparts, as did McCoy. They all did really, excellent casting choices I think. Check it out if interested.

Yes, indeed. The casting is fantastic, one of my favorite parts of these films is seeing those small movements, nods and expressions that feel like their TOS counterparts. If you watch the BTS there are moments with Nichelle Nichols visiting with Zoe Saldana, and Quinto with Nimoy ( a little more obvious there). There is a genuineness to their performances that I really appreciate.

Hopefully they throw us a curve and have Earth taken out by V'Ger because Kirk and the Enterprise were not at Earth or in range when it came.
Or another Starfleet ships shows up with Captain Harriman and saves the day, and tells PineKirk 'you're too late, we came last Tuesday'

Is Pine a method actor? Only reason I ask, is that'll require him to shave his head and wear a selection of really bad rugs.
It wouldn't be the first role for Pine which called for stunt hair.

To play Shatner!Kirk, though, I don't think Pine would need to be shaved bald; I'd guess a tonsure and an assortment of fluffy partial pieces would be enough to do.
