Shatner pulls a Kirk trick

The shat was a legend but he was being a shit in that. What it does highlight is how someone who is famous can be applauded for being an ass because that person is more "valuable" to human society than someone who isn't famous.

I like how we can see there that Shatner really knew what he was doing...he was doing a good job there.
He did take it a little far as the poor producer did finally admit that he could see Shatner actually was doing a good job. But what the hell.

Some no-nothing peon is gonna tell a classically trained veteran actor how to do a voice-over?

I think Shatner was spot-on. The twerp earned that smackdown.

i do think Stat was being a bit of a dick, but if the engineer had ever bothered to go to You tube, he would have been better prepared.

This.

I don't necessarily agree. I used to produce commercials and have had to give such direction. Sometimes it is necessary. The skill is knowing when to step in and I think that not only did the engineer step in too soon, he was also wrong and even said so himself.

Though the second take was certainly in the direction that the engineer was asking for and should have let it go.

I'll agree here. I've done commercial production and have also been the one behind the mic. The engineer/producer would have done better to let him finish the first take and keep his comment to a brief "Okay, that's good. Now... could we do another take, but with a little more energy?" That should have been all that was required.

Even so, you can tell that Shatner was listening to what the guy said at the same time he was laughing at him, and had it pretty well dialed in from the start of Take 2 -- that's a pro at work. On the other hand, that "Uhhhhhm" thing the guy was doing after both takes and the tone he used weren't terribly professional and were (I suspect) what ultimately prompted Shatner to let him have it.

Did Shatner perhaps go overboard with it? Yeah, he did, a bit (it sounded a little like he was playing to an audience of one or two other people who were present in the studio) but I can kinda see what he was going for.

Shatner was definitely having fun at the shmuck's expense. What the dummy should've done as start to play along a bit, maybe start sobbing, "I'M SORREEEEEEEEE!! PLEEEASE DON'T HURT ME ANYMOOOOORE!!" and Shatner probably would've let up, but clearly it was very entertaining to see this guy try and weasel his way out of it.

Kinda like a cat with a very confused mouse.

It kinda reminds me of the last convention I went to in Las Vegas.

Malcolm MacDowell totally pwned this poor schmuck:

Poor Schmuck (at Q&A Mic): 'Ello me brutha drooogie...
(more embarrasing faux Brit colloquialisms I can't recall ensue)

Malcolm: Is that the end of the fake British accent or do you have something more to say?

I do a wayyyy better Shatner than that guy!!

I think given Bill Shatner's age and health (tinnitus, a constant ringing in his ears) I can understand his negative reaction to the sound engineer/producer comments.

Considering Shatner easily has been acting as long as that recording engineer's been alive (probably longer), I'd try a little more tact.

More like lame Clockwork Orange riffs, which McDowell had probably forgotten about anyway.

What the Shat should have said was, "I was out saving the galaxy while your grandfather was still in diapers."

Seriously, the guy who was directing him was an idiot.
