Shatner and the refurbished Enterprise

Has anyone seen or heard Shatner mention anything about the refurbished Enterprise? I would think with the 50th anniversary here that he would at least appear next to the ship, it would be some good photo opportunities. I haven't heard him comment on the restored ship at all. I follow him on Twitter but most of the time he's just caught up in "fighting Twitter bullies" - his latest hobby I guess.

Candidly back in the day did Shatner, or any of the cast, ever have a chance to even see the 11 footer? It wasn't filmed on the same premises as the show unlike the Galileo shuttlecraft mockup. And has any of the cast commented on the Galileo being restored?

Apart from posing for publicity stills with the 3-footer, acting with it in "Requiem for Methuselah", being on the set with an AMT Enterprise in "The Trouble with Tribbles", and handling the little metal Enterprise in "Catspaw" (which would also be used in "The Doomsday Machine" if I'm not mistaken), I can't think of any other times when the TOS actors were seen with a ship miniature.

But wasn't there a TMP publicity still of Shatner and Nimoy posing in front of the 8-foot re-fit model?

Edit: I might be thinking of the 1980 TMP official calendar and desk calendar cover photos, and those were probably composite images with the ship added in the background.

The 50th anniversary is a huge milestone in Trek history. It doesn't matter if and when Shatner posed with the model before, I would think that this event would warrant at least a visit to the ship by Shatner and of course some pictures taken. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I can just imagine him saying he didn't have the time for it or that he doesn't do cameos. He's probably holding a grudge because he begged to be in the new movies and they couldn't accommodate him.

Wasn't there something at the Smithsonian for the 40th Anniversary and Leonard Nimoy was there? I'm not sure. I was talking with someone at the Smithsonian and mentioned it is a shame that none of the actors was there when they revealed the Enterprise in all its glory in July. The lady told me that at the 40th Anniversary that Nimoy was there. I don't remember that. So I'm not sure. But it sure would have been nice if the actors were with the Enterprise today.
They are showing the first episode "the Man Trap." tonight and "For the Love of Spock." and the documentary about Star Trek. Rod Roddenberry will be at the ST celebration.

He talked a lot about the Smithsonian's refurbishment of it on Twitter, especially when those rumours came out of a part breaking.

He's been flying around the world doing Star Trek 50th events. How much more do you want from an 85 year old man? And how much do you want him to do for free? If he's not being paid to do it, why would he when he's not even a fan of the franchise? This is his job, not his passion.

^ Calm down. I don't think it's asking too much for Star Trek's 2 biggest characters (The Enterprise and Kirk) to appear together for the 50th anniversary. Also I never mentioned anything about money but he should do it for free. If it wasn't for Star Trek, I doubt he would have much of a career.

And you'd be mistaken in that belief. It may have been true for Leonard Nimoy - but both William Shatner and DeForest Kelly had successful film carreers in Hollywood prior to Star Trek.

You're complaining on a message board that an 85 year old man isn't flying across the country at his own expense to take a photo with a model for you. Yes, that is asking too much.

Also, let's cut out the "Calm down" garbage - someone disagreeing with you doesn't make them angry and it's a fairly blatant/juvenile attempt to put them on the defensive. You're posting here because you're upset you aren't getting one specific thing which you feel entitled to for no other reason than you watched and followed a media franchise. I replied. That's all there is to it. If you don't want people replying and calling you on fairly blatant self entitlement than post about it on a blog without comments, not a discussion forum.

Define sucessful. A film here and there? Trek is what he is known for, without it, he work be nowhere as successful as he had been.

Wow, who pissed in your cornflakes? And you wonder why I asked you to calm down? I'll just add you to my ignore list and ask that you do the same.

Uh huh. Everyone who disagrees with you is angry and should be dismissed entirely with no response to anything that they said. Gotcha. Still waiting for an explanation as to how William Shatner owing you a photo with the Enterprise at his own expense because the show is 50 isn't a case of self-entitlement.

We are consumers of the Trek product. It's not our place to expect or demand anything of this sort. Maybe if we opened a dialog with his agent, and we were willing to foot the bill ourselves for all travel and lodging expenses as well as a paid appearance, then it might be remotely possible to maybe negotiate something. That's how this business works.

I certainly wouldn't feel obligated to go all the way across the country just because something that I never actually personally worked with myself from some place that I worked at fifty years ago was refurbished (again).

Look for yourself (and be sure to scroll all the way down, you'll be scrolling all the way back to 1951
(and that's just his acting credits - there are tabs for Writing/Producing, and other things as well.):
