Yorkshire Niner, thanks for the article and I agree, can't really disagree.

The Chain of Command scene with Picard always gets me and I'm glad it made the list. Love Stewart's performance and his final defiance against his captor and torturer when he yells "THERE...ARE...FOUR...LIGHTS!"

Yes, it's an amazing scene and David Warner and Ronny Cox deserve their fair share of credit for those episodes.

I recently made a tweet about the harsh lights in a maternity unit waiting room I was in reminding me of the torture chamber in Chain of Command. I obviously ended the tweet with "There are four lights!!".

Within one minute of having sent the tweet, I got a tweet back from someone called @Gul_Madred who simply said "No... there are five".

    :cardie:

    Cool.

I was going to make a top 5 'coolest moment TNG list'....but was only inspired by a couple, more will come to me.

    1. The Defector: "Then you shall have it,... Mr. Worf?" (Three Klingon warships decloak)

    2. Best of Both Worlds Part 1: The ending is the most memorable, but the return from station break in act one has the tension ratcheted to 11. "Captain. YOU are being hailed!"

edit: I wanted to include something from "Booby Trap", but I'm on this huge Ron Jones kick right now, and I think he's unduly affecting my selections.

Good list, though I'd replace #5 with Sisko getting Kirk's autograph.

Safe choices, but not ones I can really disagree with.

    My favorite ten less-obvious ones:

-Zek's speech about Gamma Quadrant in his first appearance.

I don't know the exact wording of the speech but it singlehandedly made the Ferengi from cartoon stereotypes into intelligent lassez-faire capitalists who counterpoint the Federation's high ideals. "Due to malicious lies spread by our competitors, people in this quadrant believe that we are not to be trusted!"

I wish they kept Zek that way instead of turning him back into a cartoon.

-Is there a Gene Luck Pickerd here?

Tapestry is my favorite Star Trek episode ever, I love the way Picard attacks his regrets with his so-called wisdom, and when Q interrupts him is one of the best comic moments of the series.

    -Even for your wife?!

After seeing him for four years in DS9 it's easy to forget that with only the information we had in TNG, there was a strange logic to Worf/Troi that made that moment really work.

    -Corbomite

This is the first place you really see Kirk proudly display his balls.

    -I love my work.

Major creep-out moment that sets the tone for one of the best TOS episodes.

-In A Mirror Darkly cold open

    KILL! KILL THE VULCAN!

-I get to choose my method of execution. I choose...(Points to transporter)

I think that's the best tactically written moment of Enterprise, in one of the episodes that won me over to the last two seasons of the series after hating it based on the first two.

-Picard wipes his finger on the plaque

The moment in Ensigns of Command when Picard hangs up on the Shelliac and then delights in making them sweat.

    -War is good for business

Dax: "Don't forget the (xth) Rule of Acquisition. Peace is good for business."
    Quark "That's actually the (yth)."
    Dax: "What's the (xth)"
Quark "War is good for business. It's easy to get those confused."

-I'll make it so easy a Vulcan can understand

Quark explains to a Vulcan terrorist using business logic how terrorism is illogical.

I voted in that poll. It was kinda flawed in that there was a large number of moments (like 10 or more) from TOS and TNG and the TOS movies but not as many from DS9 and VOY and the later movies except for Abrams. There was only bout two moments very badly chosen from ENT so its not surprising it only got one moment voted for. Also most of the TNG moments were Picard or Data moments. Moments involving other characters like Worf killing Duras were not included.

Imho it wasnt a very fair selection. Also it was possible to vote mutliple times just by leaving the website and then returning so anyone smart enough to figure that out could have easily scewed the voting in their favour just by voting a couple times or more each day until the poll closed.

Loved that they called Kirk's "KHAAAAAN!" moment a "facial Krakatoa"!

You referring to "Here it comes....now."? Yup, love that moment. We were watching a screening at college once and when Joachim yells "I can't!", (In reference to the shields not raising) someone yelled 'Put in another quarter!".

Also...only one moment from Generations? ...Job: "C'MON!"

There are some fine moments from that film, such as "My God! Was anyone in here?"..."Aye."

No, I was referring to Janeway in Year of Hell.

But that's a good one too.

With no death of Edith Keeler, these are not Star Trek's five greatest moments.

I'm sure that moment is high on the list. It is a poll, and the pool of responses might not have favored that scene. At another time, that scene might have won. It's not the magazine's fault

First of all, curse you for linking me to one of those stupid sites!! I cant stand sites full of Top 5/10/15 lists because for some stupid reason they thinks its a good idea to let you read one friggin paragraph with a picture then you have to load another page!!! Also, whats up with the coments on what made the top 50(and that one from the new movie was number 12) when we can only view the top 5??

Two of my favorite moments both include Worf: Data asking Worf to take care of Spot, and "warrior's drink"

Don't worry the Edith Keller death is in the top 10, just about. I bought the special yesterday as something to read whilst I'm off work. It's a pretty fun read, if a bit pricey at £7.99 maybe, and not a lot of it was new information. But I've still read most of it. :D

    Anyone want a top 50?

I think that's a pretty good list. Some of the ordering may be iffy, but it's all done with votes. I was glad to see some of the JJ Abrams film moments in there, though there may be too many. To be fair, the magazine is one big advert for the new film anyway. Besides, I'm just as happy to see hardly and VOY and ENT in there. :p
