OK, the review for "Blink of an Eye" is up. He gave it a very average grade of 4/10 mainly due to the flat, amateurish acting from most of the guest stars and being a little too derivative of Dragon's Egg, although Chuck admitted by itself "Blink of an Eye" is not a terrible episode and could be given a score of 7/10 by people who are unaware of the novel it is based on.

I have to say "Blink of an Eye" is one of my favorite Voyager episodes. I think it's a terrific sci-fi concept executed wonderfully. It's not a terribly original concept (TOS "Wink of an Eye," etc.) but the VOY writers pulled this one off. The ideas discussed were great, and for some reason the really bad guest acting doesn't get to me. I'm a sucker for big sweeping historical type things, so I guess the wooden "Protector" or nearly laughable pre-historic fire-fruit guy somehow didn't take me out of the story very much.

It helps that Daniel Dae Kim is the one guest star who knows what he's doing, and he also happens to have the most important role. Kudos to him for portraying a man whose status quo is utterly shattered, but manages to keep it together.

Typically for Voyager though, things like the Doc living 3 years down on the planet are never mentioned again, which as usual is a huge shame. That could have been a great opportunity for development, but they wipe it aside when he gets beamed back up and within minutes is back to normal, barely even pining for his family. He'd only been active on Voyager for about four and a half years...you'd think a 3 year hiatus from the norm would MEAN something to him. Oh well, it's no use complaining about VOY's stance on long-term character arcs anymore, especially when it comes to the Doctor. He's one of my all-time favorite Trek characters from any series, and it'll always bug me that his development was so often mishandled by the Voyager writers. :(
