Contest: ENTER SF&F Avatar Contest: Stories in the Apocalypse

Hi everyone,

I was torn between this and something relating to the Black Adam movie. With the coming of the final instalment of The Walking Dead later this month, this contest is about stories that take place in the Apocalypse. Characters struggling to survive in Zombie infested worlds or Nuclear wastelands; our science fiction characters visiting apocalyptic worlds in an attempt to help the survivors; Or people trying to rebuild society after their own has been destroyed. For that matter, any other story dealing with a world whose civilization has been laid to waste, but NOT stories where earth has been destroyed long in the past and humans are living elsewhere such as Dune and Firefly. This is about the struggle to survive and rebuild.

Graphic novels, movies, television all count, but not video games except where posting a scripted version of that game.

NOTE: I thought this would have been done before but the last thread I could find was dated 2011 so I thought it was safe to do again.

UPDATE: To clarify my concept of what can be posted and to perhaps spark some ideas I offer the following suggestions. The concept of an apocalypse story doesn't have to be exclusively confined to Earth. There are movies and series where civilizations have been wiped out on other planets. Star Trek has had the crew visit such planets going back to the original series. Stargate has examples, as do other popular series.

Also, aliens or other entities have destroyed civilization, leaving small groups of survivors trying to find their place in the new world. These count as apocalypse stories as well.

Standard avatar contest rules:

Well, let's get the obvious out of the way, shall we?

I have to admit, I'm not entirely clear on what this rule means. But since I can't think "the apocalypse" without thinking Fallout, I'm going to try this and see if it qualifies.

Fallout 3

Please let me know whether or not it this is acceptable. It is a scripted game, and IIRC this image is actually from the intro animation, not from gameplay itself, so hopefully it qualifies as a scripted version.

I was thinking that there are probably a lot of video games that could potentially be Apocalypse stories. I know that video games themselves are scripted, but I was trying to say that a television or movie or even comic book adaptation of a video game would be acceptable--not the video game itself. Maybe that makes me an old Gen X'er in some people's eyes? Is there an adaptation of "Fallout"?

Oh, I see! That makes sense... sorry for the misunderstanding.

Is there an adaptation of "Fallout"?

Not that I am aware of. (IIRC, there was a movie script written, but it never got made, and there was/is supposedly a TV show in the works, but nothing has been released yet.)

No worries, though, I will come up with something else that falls within the rules! :)

Great entries so far--but I'm feeling that people may be feeling a little confined in what they consider an apocalypse to be. I am going to wait to post my entries as I have about a half dozen ideas, but I do offer the following clarification in the hopes of helping to get the creativity flowing.

Last orders! I'll set up the vote Friday evening PST, if the world is still around.

There are still a few television series, comics, and movies out there.
