Sex Party Condemns Uluru Stripper.

I don't know what the big deal is but then my people don't have sacred rocks. They should just fine her for trespassing and be done with it.

According to the linked article, "A Northern Territory Police spokesman said Ms Sery could face a $200 fine for stripping in public."

I've seen plenty of photos of Ayers Rock (or Uluru, or whatever they're calling it these days). Doesn't look very damn public to me. Looks like it's in the middle of nowhere surrounded by nothing.

I suppose, to the Aborigines, it's the equivalent of some busty Page 3 girl performing a striptease on the steps of St. Paul's Cathedral in London. Which actually wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Very much so.

<sigh> No, that's wrong.

First off, as Harry Flashman said, 'don't offend the local gods, it never pays'.

Second, this is a little hard to describe by a white guy, bear with me. The land is sacred to the Aborigines, some places more so. Some of their songs are maps to the land, to places of food and water, as well as their paintings.

Third, for a long time they've asked that people don't climb the Rock, as a mark of respect. They don't stop it, but they'd prefer if people didn't. It's sorta like people singing loudly in St Paul's.

Fourth. what she did was quite disrespectful. Like pissing in the font of St Paul's.

Fifth, for a French person, who scream about 'American Imperialism' and the over-influence of English, she just tramped all over someone else's culture and didn't give a damn. And for that, she should be tossed. What she did was just crass. And dumb.

So, uh, what is the Australian Sex Party?

It's the party that wants to subsidise Viagra for all Australians and fund it by taxing churches.

Sounds like Australian politics are more interesting than ours.:wtf:

Nah. They're a very minor party with no seats at either the state or federal level. The Viagra thing isn't particularly outlandish of itself: the federal government already subsidises a wide range of prescription medications (eating up to 90% of the cost for low income earners) under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, so the Sex Party's position is merely that Viagra should be on the list of medications covered. It's not an entirely ridiculous notion, but the arguments against it are at least as compelling, and in any case I don't think there are many politicians who're keen on being on record as using the word 'Viagra' too often.

My impression has been it's a front for businessmen who want to make more money from porn. But occasionally they say stuff that makes sense, especially in terms of less censorship, discrimination and more positive images of sexuality.

I have no idea, but I'd like to be invited to it!
