Serpents Among The Ruins: USS Universe NX-2999?

Interesting, but the totally flat saucer is weird. The book says there's no rise in the center, but does it rule out a convex underside? I think it would look better with one, suggesting a shallow bowl or a boat in profile.

Alternatively, you could take "no rise in the center" to mean no distinct saucer module, just a gently convex upper hull with a recessed bridge. I think the use of the word "center" implies that. And making it totally flat just doesn't look good in profile, though it was clever of you to add some visual interest from other angles by making it concave instead.

Thanks for your feedback Christopher, I really appreciate your taking the time to write such a detailed response. Yes I agree with you about how the flat saucer does kook particularly odd. Hence why I knew that this design would be resit difficult to make look good, based on the description given in the book. Thanks also for noticing my efforts to add some details in terms of depth to the saucer section. However, I'm reluctant to give that convex underside to the saucer, as this would then interfere with the line-of-sight of the navigational deflector. I could let that little central section jut down a little bit lower, but it would have to be a very subtle alteration.

Ok, so here's what I've come up with so far.

I like what you've come up with! I actually kinda like the "flat" saucer. Sure, it's not anything we've seen before, but based on the text, that kind of the point.

Maybe it's just me, but I see a strong Excelsior/Excelsior II influence. The only design element I'm not that keen on (as a concept; I think your implementation of it is very well done) is the flared aft of the nacelles... but again, that's explicitly mentioned in the text, so it pretty much has to be there.

Nice work, @Scifi_Shipyards ! As @Markonian mentioned, you've taken the description and made something that looks really nice!

If I may ask, what's the "button" on the bottom of the secondary hull?

I’m sorry I can't give a professional response but I love that your design 1) matches the description and b) looks visually appealing.

Thanks very much! Your response is really appreciated, professional or otherwise. ☺️

I've been working on it some more today. I've made some changes to the navigational deflector area. I'm still not 100% happy with it but I prefer this version to the older one I made. I've also added some additional details to the saucer, taking some inspiration from the old Stargazer design. I thought this would be in keeping with the experimental nature of the ship, having it covered in sensors and probes.

Thank you! Yes the reason for the Excelsior similarities is mainly because of the time period, since the ship is from the lost era period of around 2311.
I figured that the Excelsior class would be reigning supreme at this point.

I'm glad you asked about that little button on the underside. That's a little feature I pinched from the USS Surak ship seen in the older comics.

My rationale is that it's some kind of sensor array or Hyperwarp regulator.
