I'm not surprised by this news but, as always, it's good to have two more seasons confirmed!

Hmm, they say it's "unknown" if Whittaker and Chibnall will stay for those seasons. Not that I'm trying to stir anything up, but Season 13 would be Whittaker's third season, meaning we could very well have a new Doctor in 14. And hey, that would mean Fourteenth Doctor starting in the 14th season. The synergy of it all.

This seems to be a very strange, back door way to make the announcement that the BBC has approved two more seasons beyond the one currently in production. Given the unprecedented nature of a two-year extension, I have a hard time believing that the BBC would want to release the information this way. Either it was an accidental release of information or it's somehow incorrect. I'll await additional confirmation to be sure.

Hopefully, it's true. I'm always happy to hear about more DW. I just hope Chibnall and his writers up their game. They have a great cast that is not being served well by the scripts.

Plus, the media sources I've read about the renewal saying the move is not implying that Whittaker is staying or not, as a tangent.

Naah, that's just mock superstition and cheap in-jokes - like that's never been done before or was an 11th hour thought... The same goes for various dates (more often in outdated 2-digit year format but it's daft either which way), the number 73 for being an unusual prime number given all the fun one can have with '7' and '3', or various numbers when broken down... Or, the best by far, Bender strutting across "Studio (1^2)(2^1)(3^3)", which equals 54... except those didn't require serendipitous luck to traipse over.

But I digress. You never stirred the pot, not when a lot of these news announcement articles and pieces openly put in the token luring spin as to whether or not they're staying or not (it's already beyond the point where most people aren't going to care... about the tabloid outlets, at least. People are begging Walter Cronkite to wake up and get back to work already. )

The cast is good but the scripts, even the good ones, had some embarrassingly bad moments that seem out of place and, nope, I'm not referring to the frog believe it or not...

Asa for the news; it could go either way. Miscommunication leading to misinformation isn't exactly a new thing but as there was some 5 year contract for Chibnall, which started two years ago. Or was it some alleged big bold 5 year plan, which isn't necessarily a contract? Almost 2 years down (series 11 was prepared in early-2018 if not late-2017) and as only one series aired so far, of which hasn't been all that bold (just hackneyed (Evil Fonz), cliched (Tim Shaw, almost everyone is screeching how the new Doctor is a zombified ripoff of Tennant and Smith with nothing innovative or original put in and how long a list do we want?), and copycat (Kerblooey! or whatever was a cheap parody and arachnids is an incredibly lame rehash of 'The Green Death' that otherwise doesn't know what message it's really trying to put out) storytelling for the most part) and the big aspect is probably the more cinematic feel, which isn't all that new either since all new television tries to look like a big picture on a small screen for some reason, which worked better before CGI came about...

So, Series 13 in 2022 and Series 14 in 2024 I'd bet if chibnail stays on, because he is the slowest damn showrunner/producer even in a country that produces television at a snail's pace compared to the US.

I could see a new Doctor in Season 14, but I'd also love if Chibnail left and Whittaker stayed, so that she might have a chance at a decent season as The Doctor.

It would be interesting to see a Doctor stay when a showrunner goes. We've yet to see a Doctor cross over between showrunners in the modern era (I appreciate you can argue it wasn't always successful in the classic era).

Anyway this is of course good news, can't be anything but good news, but realistically we can't guarantee Jodie and Chibnall beyond S12. Off tangent here but I wonder how long the companions, Walsh in particular, will stick around even if JW and CC stay? I'm still (pleasantly) surprised that Walsh is coming back for another season.

Though given the showrunners practically reboot the show in their own image when they take over, one could argue that having a carry-over Doctor from the previous regime works against that. Then again, Moffat wanted to keep Tennant for his first year.

I dunno. JNT still rebooted DW back in 1980 even with Tom Baker still on-board. Stylistic changes can still work even with the same Doctor remaining. Indeed, I would relish such an opportunity.

I thought the first few eps (before i lost interest) were fairly decent. Nothing terribly original; and frankly I think Moffat was the best stand alone episode writer during the RTD era.
Having huge gaps between seasons is something that I feel hurts the show almost as much as sloppy writing.
When Tenant wanted to leave the show, they pulled together a four episode "specials" season, followed by his and RTD's finale.
Series 10 first aired in July 17, followed by 10 in October 18, with 12 scheduled probably around February 2020.
It just seems like too long, especially if you have shorter seasons to begin with.

True. However, I would've thought that the BBC would've gotten it's own announcement out beforehand. But, it could just be an oversight. Perhaps there's an announcement forthcoming.
