Well this is the barest of mock-ups, but I wanted to stake out the territory lol... I'm going to attempt the first manned Earth-Saturn mission, commanded c. 2000 by one Col. Shaun Geoffrey Christopher... :D

I think I'm going to aim for a cross between the ROMBUS style and the Discovery from 2001 lol... [and hey, in the book Discovery was a Saturn mission anyway! :p]

...and thanks for the topic aridas, it wasn't my first choice but seeing those old concept shots for the first time in a long while was a hoot and got me in the mood. I have an old Time-Life volume on space I've had since I was a kid that came out before the Apollo 11 flight, showing various concepts too.... :D

I'm about to try hooking up my old scanner to see if I can get it to work, if it does I'll see what I can do... :D

Looks like a logical evolution of the Discovery to me. I can't add any technical comments, aside from the fact that the Discovery (and this) are very spherical, which is inherently easy to pressurize in space, if not easy to construct on Earth.

Can't wait to see the finished product!

ty very much! :D

here's some detailing -- RCS assemblies and a big honking Discovery-style comm dish...

added some airlocks and a new texture scheme, a little more NASA-like I think...
