Eliza Dooley get's upgraded by "Henry"... The only thing missing is a wager.

Meh?

No, I'm not feeling it. John Cho is wearing a bow tie and Karen is speaking in a Paris Hilton accent. This (sitcom) pilot is a an hour and a half worth of a romcom movie squashed down to 20 minutes and now they have no where to go that isn't redundant.

Not exactly a train wreck, but "blah".

Getting rid of the characters shallow social media addiction seems novel, but really, you have Scottish actress in America while pisstaking Pygmalion and you don't go there? Which would be terribly insulting to Scotland, but they don't have Nielson boxes, so who cares?

2 stars (Out of 5.)

This.

I saw an extend ad thingy for this while I was waiting for TMNT (Might have been Guardians.) to start. It was pretty long, and for the first few minutes I actually thought it was one of those indie trailers they have before the real green-bands. I gave it the ol' :wtf: when they said it was going to be a series.

It was better than I thought it would be. The title has a deeper meaning and I like how it touched on some of the problems of social media.

i thought it was decent. i think it was trying to be too many things. you had the pop culture references, the obvious commentary on society and the use of social media...but then you have gross out stuff like the bags of puke.

i didn't care for Karen's accent either, it was very annoying.

I didn't think it was bad. It's clearly aimed more at a female audience than a male one, but there's nothing wrong with that. The only problem is Karen Gillian is in it, hence tons of male nerds tuning in to watch it despite it being more of a chick show.

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I honestly had no plans on watching it but is on Hulu right now.

Haven't seen it. But Gillan's "How are you?" from the commercial is stuck in my brain.

Really like Karen Gillian, watched the pilot and.... there's........ promise.

I think?

Gillian and Cho are about the only things that might make this series tolerable.

Maybe.

It's really tough to say. The gross-out moment with KG and the airsick bags was really a bit much and maybe they're overdoing her self-absorbedness a bit, but...

I just dunno.

Karen Gillian.

I have a question, though. Is she wearing a wig?

As I understood it she shaved her head for her role in "Guardians of the Galaxy" but here she's got a full head of long, beautiful, hair. I don't think production wrapped up on GotG long enough ago for her to grow it back out that long but it also doesn't look like -to me- she has extensions or anything like that.

Gillian is insanely hot (and the pilot was basically nothing but showing off her body) but her American accent is pretty bad. Her natural accent is gorgeous. I'll keep watching!

As has been well covered, when Karen's head was shaved for GotG, her hair was collected and made into a wig so she could continue to do "normal" parts while her hair grew out.

I thought everyone obsessed with KG knew that. ;)

UM.

So her lover wears the wig while they're doing it sometimes to reinact some deleted scene whovian sex paradox?

I dunno, still not *too* terrible of a show but the only reason why I'm watching it is Gillan and I'm not sure it's entirely enough.

This episode introduced us more to the "arc" with Cho's character needing to be more social himself and get out of the office. (During a conversation where Gillan accused Cho of being old/a baby boomer I had to look up his age. His in his early 40s. Granted, not a baby boomer but I was surprised to see he was so old. I'd have pegged him to be more in his early 30s.)

I know the first episode implied Gillan's character was "loose" but this episode seemed to take that too far with her being pretty much clueless, okay with or just indifferent to her being nothing more than a booty call to her current "boyfriend."

Seems an odd choice to make her such a, well, a slut. It's one thing if she's just into having a lot of boyfriends and meaningless relationships it's a whole other thing with what she's doing in this episode where she's pretty much just allowing herself to be used for sex and nothing else.

Sam Malone.

Fonzie.

Porky Pig.

All of these men are clinical sex addicts and no one cares to see them medicated.

Is Karen playing a 19 year old?

I look at her and see a 30 year old woman.

(She's 26.)

(WTF?)

Okay, so Karen could be playing a 19 year old?

You know what would be funny?

If the show lasts 5 years, Karen invites Henry to her 21st birthday party.

They whole time she's been a monstrously tall hormonal freak.

Well yes, but I thought it was made into a wig and donated to the Star Wars film, to be used during its production?

I have powerslammed the first four episodes, and I don't hate it. I'm a sucker for quirky single-camera sitcoms though, and while it's nowhere near the heights of Scrubs or 30 Rock in their primes, between this and New Girl it's entertaining enough. Strange how her apartment neighbor seems to be a deliberate copy of Zooey Deschanel, though.

I'm very happy to see ANYTHING with John Cho in it, especially now in an actual starring role. He was a great sidekick in Go On, and I'm glad he's been given a lead role here. Mind you, it only took three episodes to make a serious Korean joke (followed by a Kpop gag the following week), and I hope it doesn't go too far using THAT crutch so soon. I've been happy watching pretty much anything he's been in, and will continue to watch for him as a factor. The Gillan-Cho chemistry is working, but how much it will EVOLVE in this typical rom-com movie plot stretched out to a season is anyone's guess.

Other casting tidbits: the big Bossman is played by David Harewood, who was the doting father-enabler Joshua Naismith in the Doctor Who story "The End of Time", David Tennant's swan song. And oddly, the actress playing Charmonique is only 28 years old, despite playing a character who must be in her late thirties if she graduated high school in 1994 (which is when I did). Not the first time this has happened in Hollywood, obviously.

It's difficult to tell how old larger women are, so it's not like she's impossibly young, but even if you use her real age... Didn't the high school reunion calculate how old the character was?

Google says that it was her 20th reunion.

Golly.

Here's another problem, as soon as Eliza and Henry kiss, she can stop learning from him, because she has reached the threshold where she is "good enough" for his weird standards.

John is playing 40?

(John is 42.)

Never mind.

That first White Castle movie was a while back.

(American Pie was longerer ago.)
