I applaud the TOS movie security forces for wearing armour... but seriously, did TPTB not realize that their outfits screamed of 80s laser tag?


Does anyone else have trouble taking these ridiculous looking cats seriously?

Actually, when these costumes were first created, I don't think there was such a thing as laser tag, yet.

There wasn't a Laser Tag as in the game where you suit up and go shooting your friends for a couple hours and whatnot, no --- that came out in the mid-80s. However, the prototype to these games, infrared sensor games where you could shoot at other players and get a report of when you hit or were hit came out in 1979, with the Star Trek Electronic Phaser Guns game. That didn't come with armor, though The Motion Picture did create those security-type costumes.
