Secret Santa: I broke the rules

My family does Secret Santa for Christmas every year. We draw a name and set a maximum dollar amount. This year I drew my sister, and we decided on a $50 maximum.

Well, I hope my sister is happy, because with one gift, I more than doubled that dollar amount. I bought her a Nook. Whoops.

Now, with just a week before Christmas, I still need to buy her more things. When it comes to Christmas, I find that the quantity of gifts is just as important as the quality. I can't just let her sit there Christmas morning with only one gift to open. Plus, I bought 4 different kinds of wrapping paper, so I need to have at least 4 different gifts! So...I have a feeling she's going to be getting about $200 worth of presents instead of the $50 max we established.

It's a good thing I'm nice.

I spent more on my gifts than I was supposed to to either - it's my tax refund at work!!

There's no way I could do a Secret Santa thing with my immediate family members. I don't spend a lot of money on them, but I love shopping for interesting gifts that fit each person's personality. I would hate to only be able to buy for one person!

Sometimes I like it. Sometimes I don't. The last few years I got stuck with my aunt, uncle, and grandma. I don't have a fucking clue what any of their interests are. I don't even speak to them outside of Thanksgiving and Christmas, so buying them gifts is incredibly difficult.

My sister is actually very easy for me to shop for, but I wish I had more time. I didn't even find out that she was my person until about 2 weeks ago.

What's your sister like? I don't think I've ever heard you mention her before.

I have close friends that have known me for years that have no idea that I have siblings. I just don't talk about my family all that much. They're kind of boring.

She just graduated from college with a History degree. She loves Doctor Who and other BBC things...and Europe in general. She took a 3-week vacation on her own to the UK after she graduated; she was at the Harry Potter premiere this summer.

She loves chicken and Pop Tarts. :p

Well, the Personals ad writes itself... :D

If it makes you feel any better, my Mom's side of the family does a gift exchange, and apparently, no one drew my name. My Uncle, whose name is similar, got two gifts. I got none.

I'm sad.

That happened to my mom a couple years ago! My dad drew her name, but for some reason he thought he drew my name (they both start with "R"), so I ended up with double presents that year, and my mom got nothing.

You could get her 4 $15 B&N gift cards and wrap each in a separate box. She'll need them to buy the e-books.

I already got her a B&N gift card for that exact reason!

Last night I got her earrings. I'm out of control.
