Season 2

A while back ago I was watching season one via Netflix and now I'm going through season two, and I'm wondering, what's wrong with it? I just ended with the episode "Cease Fire" last night and I really enjoyed it. So far the episodes are pretty good, I liked "Precious Cargo" Trip got lucky in that episode :) I almost forgot what that episode was about.

I remember most people being buggy about the Borg episode, but I remember liking it. It actually worked out... I still think "Enterprise" and Abram's "Star Trek" are the results of the timeline change from the movie First Contact.

You know Season Two is like a contradiction. here's the thing:

There are far more good episodes than bad ones, and even the bad ones nailed the characters.

And the two most "recycled" ideas, lifted from prior Trek (Regeneration and Judgment) were so well done it seems like a good idea to do it.

Here''s the problem

The season, overall, felt too routine. They forgot that Enterprise was supposed to reinvigorate the franchise with a new time, new setting and new ideas. So the episodes are good but in the end they felt routine. I liked season three, as the idea for a season long mission is something Trek needed and hadn't done. But what struck me as odd was the creators' need to do that kind of thing. As they say, they needed to reinvigorate Enterprise. Why? The show was a prequel that could tell stories we hadn't seen as to the birth of the Federation. Season 2 didn't even try.

That's the problem with it.

The front half after DEAD STOP and mid-section mostly blew, not picking up until after Kanamar. Too many disposable episodes that could've been set on any Trek series. HOSHI HAS TRANSPORTER PSYCHOSIS! CULTURAL CONTAMINATION! MAROONED WITH SOME ALIEN! MEAN ALIENS BOARD THE SHIP, CAPPY THREATENS TO DESTORY SHIP TO GET THEM TO LEAVE!

I thought the Borg episode was whorish, though admittedly better than say Kanamar or TRIP MAROONED AGAIN. And it was less contrived than just saying HERE ARE THE FERENGI, 160 YEARS BEFORE PICARD MET THEM.

I never thought season 2 was just awful. I thought Marauders was silly and a few episodes weren't as good as they could've been, but overall like it just fine. I think it's common to get vitriol on fairly innocuous stuff when you make comments on an Internet board.

There was just too many badly written or poorly executed episodes in Season 2.

I did like "The Crossing", but for everyone of those, there's a "Marauders" or a "Precious Cargo."
