Season 2: Wesley's Scene

I still haven't watched Season 2 yet, but I saw this listed on my YouTube feed. I never hated Wesley as a character, always thinking it was completely ridiculous when people accused him of being too smart, or always saving the ship (which was complete crap). Anyway, I loved this moment; Wil Wheaton played it brilliantly, and it was a great callback to various TNG episodes without having to be heavy-handed about the specifics.

It's been said before, but I still think he feels more like Wil than Wesley in the scene.

I've never watched the scene in isolation before. It really drives home how a strange man approaches Kore, and talks her into coming with him in less than three minutes with only vague hints of what he's even proposing.

Damn, season two...you stink. :D

As little sense as this scene made, it’s one of the few things I actually didn’t mind about season two. I guess I’m just a bigger Wesley fan than I realized. Seeing him back, even if only briefly and for a scene that stretches credulity to a breaking point, was just a nice, small and ultimately harmless moment. The dialog in this is super clunky and I guess that’s one of the reasons why Wheaton’s performance seems a bit off, but I thought it was nice to see a glimpse of what became of Wes. Also, this is like thirty years after we last saw him as a young adult — would almost be somewhat strange if he hadn’t changed into a different kind of guy.
