Season 2 Plot Ideas!

As long as it include visits to Federation member worlds, colonies and bases I'm sold.
It would be great. I imagine (creatively speaking) this series as being closer to the foundation of the Federation. The political relations between member worlds and outsiders being rougher around the edge. So the enterprise would be ask to intervene in various situations involving human colonies, alien federation members and non-members. By themselves strange worlds with their own sets of rules, political situation and cultures. All of those people (esp members or would be members) half-sold to the virtue and advantages of joining the Federation but having hard time accepting all its values and principles. Some seeing the Federation more as a short military association between planets, than a organization build on principles. So the mission of the Enterprise would be one of building the Federation. Almost enforcing it. In the sense the Enterprise would have to intervene in many situations internally within colonies or member planets, conflictual situations between members and conflicts with outsiders (borg-like/founders-like, enemy etc). A lot of it would involve politics of worlds and colonies leaders with a sense of the people they are representing. Maybe more should happen at the Federation Headquarter level (basically a DS9 like meeting place with less bar/entertainment more meeting rooms, secret meeting, leadership push). Whether to accept or not new members, how to resolve various conflicts between members. etc. All of this in the style/tone of Discovery.

My wish list for Season 2:

- Exploration/strange new worlds
- Hang outs with other federation members especially the Andorians and Tellarites.
- Tholians and Romulans as recurring villains or the introduction of another species (Kzinti maybe?) as a big bad

I posted this in another thread, but the season 2 arc could be based on the premise of VOY. Something goes wrong with spore drive and Discovery ends up somewhere far from federation (maybe even a different galaxy). They can't use it to return so they have to go exploring. This way they can do the strange new worlds stories that would be otherwise hard to do in a prequel.

Two more for the second season:

"Elixer"
In a temporary departure from constant warfare plots, Captain Lorca falls ill with a stomach virus. Discovery breaks new ground by showing a character (Lorca) having incapacitating diarrhea that takes him out of command. This episode will also be the first to specifically say the word 'diarrhea' on-screen. The chief medical officer is stumped, and very worried. Michael must take command of Discovery and seek out an interstellar trader known to her mentor, Sarek, to find a cure for Lorca's mysterious illness.

"24"
Inspired by the Enterprise episode, 'A Night in Sickbay,' this episode will follow the exploits of the Engineering crew during a 24-hour shift. The entire episode is told completely from their point of view, documentary-style, through shots from fixed security cameras. We only see the main characters of the show when they come to Engineering or appear on a monitor. The B-plot here will be that Michael has pioneered an entirely new long-range sensor that will allow the Federation to make scientific leaps like never before, and she will occasionally appear in Engineering to work on it.

my script for "Tilly agrees to test trampolines on Risa, but something is wrong with the weather" plot should by ready soon.

"Certamine cadit e interdum lacus"
The Space Whale returns. No one knows what attracted it back to the area, but Lorca determines that it cannot be allowed to threaten any ship traffic. He orders a Spore Jump directly into the creature's path, and has the weapons officer lock all weapons on it. But seconds before he can give the order to fire, Michael Burnham, driven by primal Vulcan rage at Lorca's illogical response to the situation at hand, roundhouse kicks the Captain in the head, breaking his jaw and making one of his eyeballs fly out. With Lorca down for the count, Michael orders all stations to stand down and allow the creature to leave without incident. Soon after, a mysterious alien called Trelane appears, intrigued at Michael's show of compassion, and begins testing the crew...

Something to do with the Tholians (not a war). The time period is right and we finally have the budget/technology to do them justice.

Dr. Pulaski has gone back in time to kill the ancestor of Soong, so that Data will never be created. "How's about that, you stupid toaster!"

In part 2: Pulaski fails to kill Soong's ancestor but starts dating Burnham's surrogate father. She ends up being captured by the Klingons and learns about the Klingon Tea Ceremony from Kol. She is then send back to the U.S.S. Repulse.

I want to see Lorca start a war with the Cardassians over their stupid fish juice drinks.

Why not?!?!? Archer encountered them well before Discovery, and they seem like the perfect race to convert to the next big supervillain, as was done with the Klingons.

Remember, according to Picard in Encounter at Farpoint, the Ferengi were a mysterious race prone to eating their enemies. Clearly, this rumor comes from somewhere.

I imagine a rogue Ferengi warbird (looking nothing like a D'Kora) encountering the Discovery, and the Ferengi pirates onboard, driven mad by lack of profit in the vastness of space far from their homeworld, having mutilated themselves into unrecognizable grotesque beings that lull the Discovery into a false sense of security, before beaming aboard at multiple access points and relentlessly murdering (and devouring) the crew, covering themselves with the skins of their enemies and utilizing an energy whip never seen before by the Federation.

At the end, barely overcoming their Ferengi adversaries, the crew of the Discovery notify Starfleet to tell them to avoid encounters with the Ferengi Alliance.

I would like to see for the second season; delving into Saru's species and what the predator is that hunting them as well as seeing their home planet. Also I would like it if we see more characters from other Star Trek series (no just TOS) like Phlox, Spock, Kirk, Pike, T'Pol and the Dax symbiont.
