Hey guys! This is an idea I've been tossing around, but I don't have any specific story lines associated with it yet. Here is what I DO have: an outline of the setting, characters, and general plot. I would like someone creative enough to take these characters and write episodic stories with them, assuming they are a likable enough crew. All right, now to see where this goes:
SCOUT COLUMBIA
A Star Trek Fan-Fiction Pitch
Story by VINCE COLEMAN
Based upon "STAR TREK" created by GENE RODDENBERRY
SETTING:
This is a science-fiction action adventure fan series based upon Gene Roddenberry's STAR TREK. When: the 23rd century, specifically the year 2274, stardate 7480. Where: aboard a mid-sized mobile research platform, a short-range scout spaceship called the USS COLUMBIA. Registry NCC-621. Built in orbit of the planet Jupiter, on the moon of Europa, the COLUMBIA is a Hermes-class scout, and is home to 200 humanoid life forms, whom all serve an Earth-based Starfleet.
CHARACTERS:
CAPTAIN JANUARY NORTH: Human Caucasian female, 33 years old. The youngest officer to command a scout ship, she is extremely intelligent. Her hair and eyes are dark brown in spite of her pale skin, and she stands tall at almost 1.8 meters in height. Slender but athletic build. She is an intimidating force of will, and although she is intellectually unchallenged and a real "renaissance woman" whose love of the arts and literature knows no bounds, she is not one to be crossed, and woe betide the man who even looks at her wrong. That being said, Captain North is a master of diplomacy, and follows the rules of the book by the letter. She is revered by her crew, and respected by her peers.
COMMANDER LANCE CARTWRIGHT: Human African-American male, 38 years old. Cartwright is the first officer of the COLUMBIA, and a formidable presence, forged from the fires of the Klingon-Federation war that claimed the lives of his parents and older brother. His hatred of the klingons was his sole reason for joining Starfleet, and he resents being stuck on a vessel which is designed for in depth scientific study. He frequently butts-heads with Captain North, but his sense of duty is flawless, and he knows not to cross her, because he grudgingly wants deep down to be more like her.
LIEUTENANT COMMANDER T'OLEM: Vulcan Male, 53 years old. T'Olem is the ship's science officer. Arguably the most important member of the crew other than Captain North, T'Olem is responsible for keeping the ship's research and scientific databases up to date. He is 1.9 meters tall, and typical of most Vulcans, very lean. That being said, T'Olem is not an ordinary Vulcan. Having spent almost his entire life on Earth (he was born in Detroit, of all places) T'Olem is more prone to show emotion and accept it than his peers, making him an outcast among other Vulcans. He is kind and gentle, and even gets drunk sometimes, though it would be unwise to challenge him to a drinking competition: against T'Olem, you would lose.
LIEUTENANT COMMANDER JASON CLARK: Human Caucasian male, 29 years old. Clark is the ship's chief engineer, responsible for applying the refitted and upgraded systems to the COLUMBIA that made her the ship she is today. Clark resents being relegated to ship's chief of engineering position, however, and feels he should have gotten the first officer spot. He is jealous of Cartwright, and Cartwright finds this annoying. Clark has a crush on the Captain, and once asked her out on a date, and after she turned him down, he became known among the lower ranking crew members as "The One the Captain Shot Down". He's generally the butt of most jokes on the COLUMBIA, and because of this he has relatively low self esteem.
LIEUTENANT ISABELLE PHILLIPS: Human Caucasian female, 24 years old. Phillips, or "Izzy" as the crew calls her, is the chief medical officer of the COLUMBIA. She studied medicine in Paris, France at the Starfleet Medical branch located there. Black hair and green eyes, she is very thin and lean, but also extremely healthy. She is very inexperienced, but she has an incredible amount of compassion for her patients, and a professionalism and wisdom that goes well beyond her years. She is generally on good terms with everyone on the ship, even Clark, and although he has been known to test her patience on occasion, they are still very good friends.
LIEUTENANT J'EWAD: Tellarite Male, 30 years old. J'Ewad is the ship's chief of security, and a walking tank of a man. At just shy of 2 meters tall, he is huge even for a human, much less a member of his own species, and a physical force to be reckoned with. This is counterbalanced by a demeanor of extreme lightheartedness, and a highly comical world view. To J'Ewad, everything is awesome. He is thrilled to be on the COLUMBIA, and aside from Izzy, J'Ewad is the only person on the ship who is on good terms with Clark. In fact, the two are best friends, and have known each other since childhood.
LIEUTENANT RISOKU ORION: Denebian Male, 26 years old. Orion is the chief weapons officer of the COLUMBIA. He comes from a wealthy family of Denebians who took their name for a series of stars that, on Earth, corresponds to our constellation Orion (hence the translation). Orion stands at 1.9 meters, and is also very lean. He can be frequently seen trying (and failing) to pull pranks on T'Olem, who is his best friend, and trying to challenge him to a drinking competition. Otherwise, Orion keeps to himself for the most part. On Deneb, he has a wife and three children.
PLOT:
Following the V'Ger incident of 2273, the COLUMBIA crew is assigned on a mission to follow up on previously discovered worlds, and to perform more in-depth studies of new places, peoples, and things. The COLUMBIA is also tasked with picking up and dropping off personnel from Starbases to their new homes on either planetside or orbital research facilities. The COLUMBIA is not designed for deep space study, and returns to Federation space often to pick up new officers and crewmembers.
