I am probably gonna go see it anyway I just thought that these two movies had a very familar story arc .

Well, they both involve different forms of time travel, although if your comparison is that broad so does a quarter of science fiction.

If you have to make a comparison, 'Source Code' is a bit more like 'Quantum Leap' meets TNG 'Cause and Effect' meets 'Rashomon' in that his consciousness inhabits someone else's body, he relives the same fixed time build-up to a single disaster over and over again (the last eight minutes of the host's life), and he sees the incident from a different person's perspective each time as he occupies different hosts, respectively.

But even if it is derivative of other ideas, so what? There are very few stories that are 100% new or unique any more. So long as you don't blatantly rip-off someone else's storyline, it's about what direction you develop the story from that basic shared premise.

You are aware that 12 Monkeys is based on the French short film La Jetée?

Yes I know that and I love the 12 monkeys great movie . one of BRAD pitts greats performances next to fight club and seven and the there is the mexican also.

I don't see the similarities at all. SC is about one fixed event (and from the trailers, we don't even know if time travel is properly involved), and a mere eight minutes of it at that. I guess 12 Monkeys is about a single change in the time line as well, but to me it seems like a wildly different story.

And the fact that you're calling Duncan Jones (director of one of the most creative and original SF movies to come along in the past few years) a copycat gives me the impression you don't know what you're talking about.

EDIT: I was wrong, forgot the second trailer explicitly mentions time travel. My basic point stands, though.

I have no clue what you are are talking about Tim, but can you please start writing in grown up English?

I guess no one saw the movie but but Source Code looks a hell of a lot more like Deja Vu than 12 Monkeys.

SC and DV both have a set amount of time you can go back, and both are to stop a terrorist attack.

^ I liked 'Déjà Vu,' It got mediocre reviews, but I thought it was a clever story, and probably about the closest we'll come to seeing 'The Light of Other Days' onscreen, albeit with only a very limited time viewing window.

Considering that with his debut film Moon, Duncan Jones proved himself to be one of the most intelligent and original voices in cinema sci fi, I think lumping him in with the Hollywood clone club is without merit.

Personally I'm very excited to see his Source Code since time travel has always been one of my favorite sci fi conceits. I also am a huge fan of 12 Monkeys (which btw Terry Gilliam and the films writers are very up front about the debt it owes to La Jetée.)

And btw a note to Canadave. I missed your post. I only saw it when I was scrolling back through to check the correct spelling of La... and I got goose bumps because for a second I thought some how I had posted and then forgotten, since your description of Moon is almost identical to mine. *L*

Great minds and all that...

I am really looking forwards to Source Code for that reason, though. Moon was an incredible film, and I really hope Jones can bring that success forwards into something with a wider scope and more action.

I had a chance to read the "Source Code" script before Duncan made it his next film project and the script blew me away with how good it was. Duncan coming on board as director made it even more of a must see movie.

the more I think about it after I have seen it the movie reminds of the tv series seven days. what do you think ?
