Bakula Joins TNT's 'Men of a Certain Age'

By Josef Adalian
Scott Bakula is leaping into a new TV role, joining the cast of Ray Romano's TNT drama pilot "Men of a Certain Age."

Mr. Bakula will play a struggling actor named Terry who's friends with the characters played by Mr. Romano and the previously cast Andre Braugher. The show will follow the three fourtysomething men, best friends since college who are now approaching midlife.

Mr. Bakula starred in "Star Trek: Enterprise," with other credits including a starring role on "Quantum Leap" and recurring roles on "The New Adventures of Old Christine" and "Murphy Brown." Most recently he appeared in stage musicals in Los Angeles and San Diego.

Mr. Romano and Mike Royce wrote the pilot script for "Men" and are executive producers with Rory Rosegarten and Cary Hoffman.

This is great. Scott Bakula and Andre Braugher are two of my favorite actors. But two people I never expected to see work together.

Thanks for the heads up! I like that the cable networks are getting into producing new shows!

Fantastic news! It's just a pilot, isn't it? Or did it get picked up for sure? I would so love to see him in a new series.
And he has done really well since Enterprise. He is such a versatile entertainer. He can sing, dance and he has escaped being typecast in his acting roles.

I hope it gets picked up and makes its way to my neck of the woods. I'd love to see Scott on TV again.

Good news for him. Too bad it's not the kind of show that interests me or I'd check it out.

Why can't he have the "Jason Nesmith" role in Boldly Going Nowhere instead? :(

Right now, it's just in the pilot stage. No promises on the 'picked up' thing just yet but am certainly hoping. It seems to have wonderful personnel attached, both behind the scenes and in front of 'em.

I also totally agree with you on Scott's versatility. He really can do well in all sorts of genres (comedy/drama) and has fabulous musical abilities, too (both singing and dancing).

I know he's said for the longest time that he's worked hard on not being typecast, that he's always made it his goal. Nice to see that the goal has worked so well!! Speaking as one who's been fortunate enough to see him on stage as well as on the big and small screen, he really can do it all :techman:
