Scorpion had some good scenes in it

I remember when the episode first came out. I was all set for ST time, had my smokes on the coffee table, turned the phone ringer off, had a hot cup of coffee ready to go, and then the episode started with 2 Cubes approaching the "camera". Then that big-ass force lightning shot out from our perspective and blew the cubes to smitherines! My jaw hit the floor!! Man, I was blown away by that.

Then when the 9 or so bio-ships were converging on the Borg planet, they entered that Death Star-esque formation and blew the implants off that sucker! That just looked really cool.

And the modern art mound of former drones looked pretty creepy. I thought that it would look pretty cool in a museum next to David.

Then when Harry said that he had a Cube in sensor range, no make that two cubes, no three....15 Cubes! I think I popped a turtle head on that one, I mean 15 cubes! Even Super-Voyager would have a problem with that.

That episode had some really cool visuals. Even though it kind of watered down the Borg experience, it was still pretty cool.

No space, I assure you.

"Scorpion" was easily the best Borg themed two-parter the show did, I feel, and that's probably because it didn't diminish the Borg overmuch. It was Species 8472, not Voyager, which was doing most of the kicking the Borg around, after all. (And while there is no Queen, Seven takes that role - but strictly as a mouthpiece. Got that right more than First Contact did.)

I'm surprised you didn't mention how 8472 themselves were handled; it was a good CGI design and one of Voyager's most effectively created - and mercifully underused - villains.

I am a HUGE fan of Scorpion...IMO not just some good scenes...the majority were great scenes!!!

Just wished they released the soundtrack!

Scorpion was the best thing Voyager ever did with the Borg. Loved almost every minute of it even though Part two wasn't as good as Part 1. Still, it probably was the best two parter Voyager did.

Scorpion was amazing. We got to see a completely new side to the Collective without defanging them one bit. The Borg may have been losing a war, but they remained just as terrifying as they were in "The Best of Both Worlds".

The scene where a fleet of Borg Cubes are rushing towards (past) Voyager and Chakotay utters his "My God" still gives me chills.

^I agree. Scorpion is a real highpoint so far in Voyager (I haven't finished viewing the series yet.)

And Species 8472 are a heckuva lot cooler than the Hirogen.

Scorpion was a mixed episode for me. On one hand it was very bad, because it introduced the Borg bimbo. On the other it introduced a great villain race in Species 8472. Unfortunately they ruined it all with the "Boothby" episode.

^ Indeed.

If I was going to make a sequel to Scorpion, I'd have Voyager stumble upon an invasion point for 8472 and have them to gather allies (mainly the Hirogen and the Hierarchy) to stop 8472.

I love Scorpion, especially Part one. The scene where Voyager gets hit by the 8472 energy beam and thrown into a spin was really great, loved the special effects and camera work there. Especially when the Ship jumped to Warp before it fully stopped spinning.

I also thought the sequence where the crew are preparing Voyager for crossing Borg Space was really good, the music on this episode was some of the best I've heard, it could even give the late Jerry Goldsmith's stuff from the movies a run for its money.

I've never been a big fan of 7of9 so having her introduced here wasn't exactly a high-point. That said, however, I don't think it detracted anything too much from the episode.

Scorpion is definitely up there as one of my favourites.

I love the Scorpion two-parter.

Part I really gave me hope that VOY might be rejuvenated in a way much like BoBW had done for TNG. It was just a perfect idea.

I loved:
-the brilliant teaser showing us two cubes quickly dispatched by an unknown force.

--the writers acknowledged the realities of the situation the crew were in. I really appreciated that from Janeway mentioning Borg space is vast, Neelix stocking up food supplies given the liklihood of encountering a non Borg world were slim, the tactical preparations as well as the Doctor studying the Borg corpse to find a way to fend off the nanoprobes.

-the continuity touches--mentioning Picard, Wolf 359, Q flinging the Enterprise into the path of the first cube, Tuvok mentioning rotating modulations.

--the ominous first encounter with the fleet of 15 cubes, Chakotay's reaction.

---Brannon and Joe came up with a brilliantly clever way to let the crew survive in Borg space by having the Collective busy with a greater threat which also avoided the criticism of it being BoBW 2.0

--the destruction of the Borg planet

--the well done back and forth between Janeway and Chakotay.

Part II was good but not great. It was a little too pat a resolution. I was expecting something a bit bigger. I also didn't care for Harry being saved given he was such a weak character and Jeri Ryan came across too emotional as Seven. She should have emulated Patrick Stewart's Locutus.

I agree with that Harry was back on the job waaay too early in the episode, given how they were making it seem so grim for him in Part 1.

OTOH, he probably would have been back within an episode or two if he hadn't been cured in Part II. I can't really see that as being a detail worth dragging into other episodes.

Harry's illness was initially a way of writing his character off the series. When they chose not to do that, the resolution was somewhat pat, but appropriate. They wrote off Kes instead.

In retrospect, I would have done it the other way around. There may not be a lot to Kes, but there's less to Harry. And Jennifer Lien could carry an episode given anything good to work with - she's great in "Warlord". :)

Uh, a "bimbo" with a National Merit Scholarship?! :wtf:

Unfortunately they ruined it all with the "Boothby" episode.

Species 8472 were wisely retired, instead of being overused like the Borg or Dominion ended up being.

I'm talking about the character. Not the actress.

Why not retire them in "Scorpion" instead of a silly episode where a race who could crush humanity like ants were shown playing make-believe?
