Science fiction tv?

The best in science fiction are Stargate, Star Trek, BSG,
Are the true ones that catch our attention. But those shows are old, most have either stopped making or tried un-successful. I don't see anything like that anymore. Is there anyspace that is left for a new series. Have those series that passed covered all aspect of science-fiction?

Unfortunately, space opera on television just isn't 'in' right now. It still does quite well by itself at the movies, but when you ask an audience to really commit to a weekly series based around the idea, it's a harder sell.

There's nothing set in space other than SGU right now... and that didn't exactly leave a good taste in anybody's mouth.

Thats what I'm saying. Is there room left for any new shows out there. Is there any base left un-covered?

What about the animated CLONE WARS tv show?

That's one watchable space opera show. I guess you could count Futurama. We could use a few more, and live action would be nice.

I was just going to post a thread about pilot season trends anyway. Plenty of sf/f shows, but zombies and fairy tales seem to be the hot new things. I have no idea why. When most or all fall on their faces, some other damn thing will be the hot new trend, maybe mutants or killer clowns. Why is everyone so scared of aliens!?!

Was there ever? ;)

I don't think it matters how often a story is told or even where its told. Though "can the studio afford to tell it ?" does matter.

thats true. We sci-fi fans have extremely high standards, and it just cost to much money to pleasure us with some good old new stargate and startrek like shows.

If science fiction fans truly had "extremely high standards", they wouldn't keep accepting re-treads of stuff they've already seen like Star Trek and Stargate. What happened to innovation and new ideas?

There has been plenty of sff stuff over the last decade the only thing is most of it was crap--looking back over the last ten years about the only decent stuff was LOST, BSG, ENT.

Some Doctor Who episodes are set in space or on other planets, but it's more often than not an earth-bound show.

Skiffy is working on Blood & Chrome, which is apparently going to use cheap SFX technology to keep the costs manageable.

That becuase star trek and others already met our high standards. But the new stuff will have to be an instant hit in order to get enough money to pay for the expenses.
