sci-fi IN DISGUISE

You ever find yourself attributing sci fi labels or meanings of things where they don't apply, or reading into something the wrong way? Maybe your eyes play tricks on you.

Example. just now I was on CNN.com.

There, in the list of headlines, one said:

'Deception' In Afghan contract bids.

Is there anyone else who might have thought Starscream was involved in the bidding process?

Going by the title, I thought this thread was a RobertScorpio thread in disguise, does that count ?

I once read a headline along the lines of "SF Group to Purchase Shopping Center" or something.

It took me a second to realize they meant "San Francisco," not "science fiction."

Living in California, I bump into things like that all of the time. :) Headlines like "SF seeking new identity" throw me off all of the time.

Ha ! Me too!

And I came in here mainly to comment on the very same thing. Although an RS thread also usually contains elipsis and ridiculous multiple punctuation, as in:

sci-fi...in DISGUISE!!!
And it would be much more obscure, like You got SCI-FI in my____ !! so as to make me click on it.

Sure I can.

Although personally, I thought this was going to be a LOST thread.

An even more embarrassing example: In a college chemistry lab, our professor informed us that we would need "DMG" for our next experiment. He meant "dimethyl glyoxide," but I swear the first thing that went through my head was:

"Dungeon Master's Guide?"
