"Scarface" wasn't the maserpeice I was ex[pecting.

With all I have heard about and how popular the posters are I thought it would be comparitable to "Godfather". Instead it played out like a better acted episode of "Miami Vice." Maybe the 80's clothes and haircuts just made it look to dated to take seriously for me.

I think it's a truly over-rated movie. Pacino is totally over the top and this saw the beginning of his tendency to over play roles. There are virtually no sympathetic characters. The soundtrack is awful.

I'd rather watch some Miami Vice.

The over-the-topness of it is what makes it so good, IMO.

And I'd say that Tony Montana is, at least in some small ways, a sympathic character - for instance, he refuses to kill kids even though it will probably mean he dies for it.

Scarface is hardly a masterpiece. It's a huge cult hit. Particularly among druggies and gangsters.

I view it as a terrible racist caricature that's a rather guilty pleasure to watch. That and count the number of times the word 'fuck' is said.

I really don't think you've been paying much attention to what people _actually_ say about the movie. It's a cult hit, and it's notoriously violent.

PS: "the maserpeice I was ex[pecting"?

Really, Jayson, try harder some time.

It has some great scenes, but I have never considered it as a great movie. It's worth seeing but not worth buying a copy for any more than 5 bucks.
