Saw KISS last night...

...and after 35 years, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons can still put on a helluva show. :)

One kind of sad thing is that it is my opinion that Paul Stanley seems to be losing his voice. Don't get me wrong, when Paul Stanley is on stage doing his thing, his heart, soul and spirit are 25 again. He has more fun then should be legal while performing. However, his voice is showing it's age (57). He really can't hit those high notes that he used to hit regularly back in the 70s and 80s anymore. :(

I really don't like the fact that they dress up Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer as Ace Frehley and Peter Criss. Thayer is a good guitar player, and Gene and Paul should let him be himself instead of mimicing Ace's look and sound (They even have Tommy sing Ace's "Shock Me"!).

I would like to see Tommy and Eric develop their own personas within the band just like Eric Carr and Vinnie Vincent did back in the 80s. Gene says it's for merchandising reasons, but that seems like bull to me. If Tommy and Eric S. added new personas just as Eric C. and Vinnie did, then they would have eight characters to sell rather than just the classic four.

Any other KISS fans out there?

ETA: I like Ace's new solo album, "Anomoly", better than "Sonic Boom", the most recent KISS release and I will hopefully be seeing Ace perform in January. :techman:

Can't really call myself an avid fan but I do think they were one of the earliest great stage acts and have a huge, loyal fan base, which they obviously deserve.

My son met Gene and got his autograph when he did the Rock School documentary at Christ's Hospital School, over here in the UK. Son was a bit intimidated, he was only 12, but Gene won over the rather proper Deputy Head big time.
On the doc he came over as a really cool guy ~ with an absolutely amazing house!

They certainly know how to do Rock 'n Roll ~ it must have been a great gig :techman:

I always liked KISS, who were at the height of their popularity when I was a kid. They should definitely let the new guys have their own identities; I don't like the idea of recycling the makeup.

Anyway, this Thread should thrive better in General Media, so stand back while I do the magic Mod hand jive-- and spit some blood.

Wheee-oooo! Pfft!

Saw the DC show back in October, and it was great. I had fourth row seats, so I was in the thick of things. Paul's voice could have been better, but he had been sick early in the tour, so that was part of it. The show was great - I just wish they had played more new tunes from Sonic Boom. Only got "Modern Day Delilah" (they have since been playing "Say Yeah" as well).

I don't mind the makeup on Tommy and Eric much, as I see Paul's reasoning behind making up yet another couple of characters. We definitely know Eric can play a hell of a lot better than Peter these days, that is for sure.

I ended up with a couple of hundred pics from the show, and they turned out better than expected. Here are a few of the pics (click on 'em to end up going to a bigger size version (the originals are pretty huge, so I didn't upload original size here, but can if people want some).

I'm not a big fan of the band, but I would go to one of their concerts just for the unique experience. And I think they should get their due in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

I saw them when they first put the make-up back on and toured with Frehley and Criss. It was one of the best concerts I've ever seen, behind only Pink Floyd and White Zombie.

Those are some very cool pics. :)

My brother and I were one row from the floor and kitty corner from the sound board, just feet away from where Paul flys out to the crowd to sing a song. ("Love Gun" in this instance, but I don't know if it's the same in every show). I got a few pics that I'll post later, and I got three minutes of video while Paul was singing the aforementioned "Love Gun". (The video I'm not so sure how to post. Hell, I haven't even figured out to get it off of my phone yet.)

Great pics! I wish Gene would let Tommy and Eric create their own personas. Perhaps the same theme, just altered slightly, like Ace's silver star, change it to gold. Subtle stuff like that. I haven't got Sonic Boom yet, But I'm dying to hear it! I'm gonna check out AC/DC this Thursday in Orlando. I'm looking foward to that very much. I'll post pics of that if I get the chance!

Hard to believe these guys are still at it, they were big when I was in junior high in the mid 70's.

That was my thinking when invited to a Marilyn Manson concert a few years back. I didn't know any of his songs (and still don't), but the show was definitely worth the price of admission.:techman:

Agreed. This year I'm rooting for KISS, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Genesis (A guilty pleasure. Wanna make something of it? ;)) to make it in.

KISS played here last night, but I didn't go. I loved them as a kid, but now I find them a bit....simple. I'm sure they put on a great stage show, though.

As for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, until Rush gets in, everyone involved can suck it.
