Saucer Section Docking in Trek 11

Bones1864

Admiral
Let's see a docking of the Saucer Section and Engineering Hull of a Constitutiion Class ship in Trek 11.
We gotta' see the Engineer's Bridge deep within the Secondary Hull................

Sorry, Bones. Separation of the saucer and secondary hull in the NCC-1701 is an emergency procedure only, used when saving the whole ship is impossible. People would load onto the saucer section and get the heck away from danger. Docking the two parts together would involve mostly long bolts and big wrenches, or the 23rd century equivalent.

Yeah, I always imagined an "explosive bolts" situation where the engineering hull was being permanently abandoned and the saucer used as a liferaft of sorts, at least as far as TOS Enterprise goes.

why is this necessary?

Frankly, I was annoyed with how many times the Enterprise has been critically torn apart or destroyed to inject excitement into a movie.
