Sarah Jane to air twice a week

According to Digital Spy at least. It's also going to be in HD.

The upcoming third series of The Sarah Jane Adventures will air twice a week on BBC One.
The move means that stories will start and conclude in the same week. "We've been planning this for a very long time now," exec producer Russell T Davies told Doctor Who Magazine. "The whole of Children's BBC is excited by this transmission pattern. It feels like the old days, when Doctor Who would transmit twice a week!"
The third series, which was shot in HD, will begin on BBC One on Thursday, October 15. New episodes will air Thursdays and Fridays thereafter.

im all for it, got fed up with the channel switch to CBBC, for the second part, and the CBBC DOG, this will avoid that.

Hmmm... so this would put the episode(s) with the Doctor at around October 29 & 30, right (at least, based on the episode list on IMDb)...?

Awesome news but sadly I won't be able to reap the benefits because I won't be able to watch until mid-November. I'm happy for everyone else, however. :bolian:

During the Davison era they did this as well, and it paid dividends in terms of ratings. These days it'll also allow the BBC to reap the benefits of a DVD/BRay release sooner (in time for Christmas, you think?). It also will get SJA out of the way in time for the final three Tennant specials (my guess is Waters of Wars will air either the week SJA ends its season or soon after).

SJA series 3 out on DVD by Christmas? I know BBC and Channel 4 are getting really good at rushing stuff out lately but... is series 2 even out yet?!

When does series 3 start?

And when the heck does the Region 1 Series 2 DVD set come out?

So whats up with the BBC compressing all its Who shows? Torchwood showing its five episodes back to back, and now Sarah Jane getting the whole season over in six weeks...

Are attention spans in the UK getting shorter or what? ;)

Well Torchwood was a proper event. I doubt many people who saw Children of Earth would agree it would have as much potency in effect if it were aired weekly.

And SJA has always been on twice a week. Just happens that now it's on the same channel, rather than the second part being shown on CBBC first.

well you did only get one new episode each week on each channel, the new episode airing on CBBC (expect the first week, when you got the first two episodes the same day)

bascially at the start of the series episode 1 airs on BBC One, then after that episode two will air on CBBC

the next week, episode 2 will air on BBC One, and episode 3 will air on CBBC

the following week episode 3 airs on BBC One, and episode 4 will air on CBBC

this season however it will be a case of, two episodes airing in the same week on BBC One.

hope that explains it.

Digital Spy have some pics of The Doctor on Sarah Jane.

Darn, was about to post this. Interesting note though -

Digital Spy said:
Part two summary: "The Doctor joins the battle - but is it too late to save both Sarah Jane and the Earth itself? As the power of the Pantheon of Discord grows in strength, the old friends are separated across different time zones, and must fight to save each other - but for one, there's a terrible price to pay."

Does anyone else think that the "for one, there's a terrible price to pay" statement is about the Doctor, and not Sarah Jane?

^ Well, as the Doctor is going to, well, die a month later and SJS has another 4 episodes to get through in her series, I think that's a safe bet :D

I LOVE those photos, can not tell you how excited about this, without turning into a screaming uber fangirl about it
