Sanctuary---Requiem

How good (or bad) was Requiem, Friday's episode of Sanctuary?

I rated it above average. It was basically The Abyss done without FX, which is too obviously cheap, so I wouldn't call it excellent. But---Amanda Tapping played the Harris and Biehn and Mastrantonio roles! Now, that's entertainment.

Think this episode airs in the UK tomorrow, so I can't comment on this particular episode yet - but I will say that time seems to fly when I'm watching episodes of this series

I enjoyed the hell out of it, but I kept wondering how in the world you could drive a sub without a crew. Sure, it was a small one, but I'd really like to have a full-time driver paying 100% attention to where we were going, and maybe a full-time mechanic aboard. The only two people aboard were spending all their time fighting and autopsizing and only looking out the window when it was dramatically necessary!

It was above-average for the show, but just average compared to TV in general. I liked the plot, although it's been done to death by everyone from Trek to X-Files. I like Amanda in this; she pulled it off fairly convincingly, and it made the character a little more appealing. I couldn't really buy the bit with the sub (no pilot, no crew?) and the way the air ran out of the room in mere seconds. And what did they do with the creature once they'd frozen it, especially since it can contaminate people through almost microscopic openings?

But it kept my interest more than any other Sanctuary episode thus far, so I'll give it above-average.

You know, I've really been enjoying this series since it started. It's far from perfect, but for some reason it actually feels fresh.

Too bad there was no Ash this week though.
